HELP PLEASE! Hawaiian Snow DWC

Hi all,

This is my 1st indoor grow. Im using a DWC system with 2x125W envirolite CFL's to grow Hawaiian Snow. Temps were way too high in the first few weeks which I think has somewhat stunted the plants growth. She has also developed some yellowing and burnt leaves. I have already lost a few baby leaves and others are begining to show dark patches, or brown and dry out rapidly.

Temps are now down in the mid 80's, lights are on 18/6 and as yet she has not been fed anything other than Ph'd water.

from as early as 2 weeks you can see leaves beginning to curl.

a week later an it continues.

Over 4 weeks in, I have trimmed off the original baby leaves which had dried up completely, Whilst the new growth looks healthy, im continuing to have lower leaves drying and curling. Some nasty black spots too.

a day later black spots have developed into sick brown leaves. New growth seems to have slowed massively.

She gets watered 3 times a day, has developed a decent root system, that is just coming through the basket (its a deep basket) but hasn't his the res yet.

I have no idea what is causing this problem, I thought she would have bounced back once my temp issue was sorted.
Perhaps the Ph is spiking rapidly between res changes? Im thinking of giving her a weak (maybe 1/4 strength) dose of nutrients today? But really, im clutching at straws :(
Ive even popped in a White Rhino and Lemon Skunk to germ in preparation for the worst.

Any one with any ideas or advice please gimme a shout. Super worried she's gonna be consumed by creeping death and dont want to have wasted a month of precious growing time.
Cheers.

Hm. I seem to be seeing soggy rockwool / stunted growth situations with regularity here.

I think you have slow root growth (and possibly necrosis) due to oversaturated rockwool. Is that rockwool wicking directly off the body of water below? You need more areation through that big wet block.

In the future plant in a smaller block so the roots can work their way into the pebbles sooner. Your little seedling is overwhelmed by that soggy dense mass of rockwool.

Edit:

Normally I do the same thing you did when starting from seed. I germinate and let sprout in the small rockwool plug. Once the roots start making their way out of the bottom of the small plug, I stick it into a larger rockwool cube and bury in clay pellets. I don't, however, saturate my block like that. I have the block and surrounding pebbles srayed periodically from outside in... (no saturation by a direct drip feed line or wicking). The roots blast their way through the rockwool and penetrate the netpot quickly by this method. Oversaturating a young clone or seedling is a common mistake that can easily be avoided. I think a lot of new people worry too much about letting rockwool and hydroton dry out. They retain moisture better than you think. The more common mistake is letting them get too wet.

Cheers dude. You make a good point.

I dumped the tank this afternoon, Ph had risen to 7. Fresh resovoir, 1/2 strenght nutes, Vitalink Max, lowered Ph to 5.5.

The roots have breached the basket by half an inch, but are still an inch or two from the top of a full res. Hoping to see her fight back over the next couple days. Probably give her another fresh res on friday or saturday.

For now, a couple more pics. You can see the discolouration of the leaves which leads to drying and curling.

Peace out.

What is Hawaiian Snow? Those thin bladed leaves look like sativa dom.

anyway, your new growth looks good. You should be okay. I think those early dying leaves are just an indication of the critically stressful period that has passed. If all goes well, that cruddy early growth will just die off replaced by lush new growth... and all of this will be a distant, faded memory.

Good growing!

Yeah its a sativa dominant cross from Greenhouse Seeds. I think its a cross of Hawaiian Haze, Pure Haze and Nevilles Haze. Not a lot to be found about it but what I have read seems promising.

Sounds like good shit. You'll have great fun when you grow that out I'm sure.

Its my understanding that its called Hawaiian Snow because thats how rare it is, having one of the longest flowering times in existence. I've heard good things about it taste, but who knows how much of that comes from the effort and patience it took to finish that.

Interesting video. But they keep going on about how sticky they are yet they're trimming by pulling the leaves off by hand? Can't be that sticky. If I tried trimming my bud by pulling off leaves with my fingers, my hands would goo up so fast that I wouldn't be able to get through one branch without having to wash my hands with alcohol.

I wonder if they've ever tried a bomb OG grown by a California master?

I've seen that dude Arjan and his right hand man in many videos before. I think they're a tad obnoxious the way they keep going on about how their bud is the 'finest in the world.'

Honestly wish I could remember. My first grow I was focusing on Sativa's so I read it while I was strain shopping, that was over a year ago. If I recall its flowering time was supposed to be 14-16 weeks though, why I stayed away from it. The full moon was bad enough with its 12 week bullshit. :p

Arjan has a reputation for being a pompous prick thats quite stuck on himself. Hence why he has to have his name on EVERYTHING it seems.
