I have 10 in an aero system that appear to be getting the root rot. For the older ones it is too late unfortunately and I believe they will have to die. My question is after I use hydrozyme, flush and add hydrogen peroxide, will the less affected ones be ok? Will they still be able to reach their full potential? And above all HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

"How does root rot happen?"
Several reasons. Probably the most common is lack of Oxygen due to warm temps or not enough "air" in the aeroponics. So in short, keeping the water temps low (typically below 80), and having enough air via bubbles etc, will generally keep the root system healthy. A little H2O2 seems to work as well, providing you don't have an organic setup.

I can't recall specifically, but I want to say the water temp should be between 68-75 . You would have to do a search, but I know that someone has posted the the amount of Oxygen that comes out of solution at the varying temps.
If your water temp is over 75, I'd say you are more at risk. Not "room" temp, but "water" temp. Some people use chillers and such. As far as pump cycle times, I'd have to defer that to other experienced members on the forum.

As an aside, I had a run in with root rot from warm temps and a DWC. Those are notorious for that kind of thing. I switched to flood/drain.

right so the most common problem being water temperature...what are the other factors? I know that my water temp is consistent and never gets any kind of warm or hot. I also know that I have many bubbles...as I am running an aeroponic system that I bought from a store. Anybody else know what caused this widespread and most unrepairable problem? I do not want to have to go through another huge waste of time.

Use the hydrogen peroxide first and then use the hygrozyme in your nutes.
Anaerobic conditions lead to root rot. Water that is above 68º starts to dramatically reduce it's ability to hold oxygen. also high concentration of salt will reduce the waters ability to hold Oxygen So reduced nute loads will help increase DO. Read this CC Hydro 101 by Earl - Cannabis Culture Forums ![]() ............Nutrient Load chart % of max recommended. Don't drive your plants much over 50% nute load, because you waste money, and reduce DO. . |

ahhh i was severely mistaken. It just so happens that about the last 3 or 4 hours of my light cycle the water temp jumps to a disastrous temperature. So, you were right mr. earl and tanuvan. My next question is, do inexpensive chillers exist? I can only seem to find a chilling unit upwards of $250. I really don't feel like spending $300 on a unit that cools my water....

Some guys do build their own chillers from old airconditioers,
or old refrigerators. You have to have a sepperate rez, if you DIY, to isolate the copper from your nute rez. Can't have your nutes near any copper or aluminum tubing. The aquarium chillers are pretty expensive and this is why. They use a titanium heat exchanger, so...... no copper. I keep my room temp at 66º, so the rez will stay at 66-68º Add more air and try to cool the rez temp. Just blowing cool air onto the surface of your solution can lower the temps by 5-10º. Some guys use computer fan to blow air into their tub. . |

hmm thanks for the ideas earl. I was also wondering if there is a minimum temperature that cannabis can live in. There does not seem to be much information on a minimum temperature out there. Until i build or buy a chiller though this is important to me as I will be taking more ghetto measures to chill the rez. thanks again guys, chief
