care to explain? I find them to be the fastest for rooting in dwc... reaches water faster than in hydroton. same with germination...

I don't see the issue with stg.. no dust in water, no PH issues..

    I like stg personally

I did a cycle of the starter cubes to root cuttings and did not like them. oasis cubes, rockwool, peat pellets, and aerocloning worked have better for me.
My bud ran a few of his ebb n gro buckets with STG and saw some algae growth on the top.

I dont run DWC so I cannot comment on that,.. can only speak from my past experiences.

I'm sure they have a useful application somewhere. Just doesnt suit any of my needs... Different strokes for different folks, I guess

No its not just another medium! Holds way to much water! Doesnt have ability to hold a larger size plant from falling over!
over time it settles/shrinks. And last but not least algie loves it like no other! But if exp is what you seek by all means try it

    • "STG cubes are working really quite well with 2 of 3 plants in STG cubes performing above average compared to other plants in the same batch in Fytocell. However, I think that plants in STG would benefit from being watered 2x/day. Since the plants in STG are sharing a tray with others in Fytocell, I could only water the entire tray 1x/day. I have yet to run a whole tray of plants in STG cubes. From a practical aspect, I do like how neat and clean the STG cubes are to use. No bits of stuff all over the place, as happens when you use pots stuffed with Fytocell only. I have long used a 25mm layer of rockwool floc in the bottoms of pots I intend to fill with Fytocell to keep the crumbs in the pots, which does work, but also prevents the Fytocell from draining fully. I have an experimental batch of plants that is in Fytocell only with no layer of floc in the bottoms- and there's bits of the stuff everywhere- in the trays & in the tanks. Real mess to clean up- and the bits floating in the tanks provide a hospitable home for algae & other crap. So far, I'm hopeful for STG and will probably buy enough to run a couple of full trays to see how they go when the watering can be tailored to STG's water holding capacity."

Do they still include the shitty piece of plastic you're supposed to wrap the cube with yourself?

i'm going to have to sign on with team hydroton, this thread is just blatant advertising for a clearly subpar product.

I gave them a shot when they were handing out freebies. Had an algae party going on. Resolved that problem by covering them with hydroton; the irony. What turned me off the most about them was the price.
