Hey I'm starting my first soiless grow and had a few questions that I couldnt really find on here.

Is it possible to grow soiless without an automatic irrigation system?

If i did try that, what would be the easiest medium to use? (I was thinking rockwool)

If I did do all this, how often would i have to water them?
And would it be worth the effort or should i just continue using soil?

yes you would have to go with rockwool, it will be like soil except you cannot let it dry out. Feel your rockwool to know when you have to water, bigger plants suck up more water so the bigger the plant the more you have to feed.

oh and rockwool holds alot of water, its like a sponge almost but holds more water then a sponge. I ussually water my seedlings every 3 days, as it grow i increase, now im watering a 2 ft plant in a 4x4 cube once a day.

Oh, I was kind of under the impression it had to be watered at least a couple times per day. So its completely possible to manually water the plants all the way through.

I am hand watering some 1" cubes by hand due to space limitations
right now. I have them under fleuros at 24/0, and water twice a
day. It should be more like 3 for them...it just depends on how
much light your giving them, and how fast it dries out.

I have heard from people that they hand water in rockwool with some success, just watch out in case laziness takes over and you start forgetting.
