Hi. this is my first post :P. ive been reading up on this website for about 4 months and ive gained a lot of information...
THANK YOU!! anyway.. im still fuzzy on some of the specifics of hydroponics i have a 2ft 8.5in x 1ft 8in x 1ft 6.5in 37 gallon rubbermaid tub. i just wanted to know where the water level should be when growing. should the water be touching the bottom of the pot in early stages? Orrrr should it be a little below it? do i keep the same water level throughout the grow? imo 37 gallons is a lot of water. did i get the wrong capacity or is this normal? o and also. could i use pvc piping inside the tub (poking holes in the pipe) and connect it to air pump to act as a air stone? Youre gonna want to put a diffuser on the end of the pvc pipe to make more bubbles, make sure its not big bubbles that will make the dwc a wave pool, lol.
at the start you want the water right below the roots until they are outside of the net pot, then you lower the water level to whatever you want it to be, periodically so the roots are right above it at all times, then stop when you are comfortable, maybe 25 gals. After youve stopped they will really start growing nice roots that chill in the water and soak up nutes water and oxygen. Youre gonna want a lot of bubbles, make sure your top can support mature plants. ph should be checked daily, and you want 5.2-5.8 I believe, if you are transplanting though, try to keep the ph around what you were watering it before, and then slowly lower it. good luck |

about an inch from the net pots, they'll reach for it real quick.

37 gallons is way too big. I personally go for the 18 gallons, with about 4 air stones. If you end up going with a smaller resevoir it requires alot more attention to PPM (ec) since you don't have another 8 gallon buffer on the solution. Just my opinion.
