this is a mix beetween both drip and fill and flush, it floods the rockwool once a day fer thirty to 45 seconds in the morning leavin the whole

day to soak it up, then at night building root with the extra oxygen in the rockwool. then floods the nex day AT lights on.


u think this idea will werk?

the question i got is, grow trays r 40 bucks and thats cheap, has any1 made 1 and if so did it werk good??? and how did u do it?? wat did u use, this is kinda need to kno stuff asap too!! lemme kno.

so you're going to have rockwool cubes on top of rockwool slabs? and you are going to flooding at day and at night??? isn't that a lot? maybe too much? you're saying thirty to forty-five seconds... what the rate of the water flow? how big of a container are you flooding?


I'm not an expert by any means. But when I think about your setup my concern is that the rockwool would be too waterlogged. I think that this concept could work but maybe not by flooding so often. let's see.... maybe you could start the plants off with your drippers and after those roots get moving only flood the very bottom of the slabs. in my experience, rockwool wicks the water up very well and doesn't dry out quickly. in fact, this may be overkill because the rockwools retains that water so well. but i hope that you prove me wrong and that your girls are thirstier than hungover college kids waking up saturday morning



as for a flood table.... maybe those plastic storage bins that are long and low and slide under the bed. it'd have to be spray painted black and with all the appropriate holes and hoses (of course)....

or maybe you could even use a sheet of corrugated steel roofing... i don't know how you could flood it but maybe just the drips would suffice??

sorry if i did, the whole point of it is to flood in the morning, and BY night it will b still a lil damp but more dry, fer the roots to build, since they do most there werk at night.

Why guess? Build it then test it with no seeds. One way or another you can get it dialed in so your medium will be as wet as you want, and no wetter.

I think if you look at your drawing and substitute hydroton for where you have rockwool it will work. Then just get 4 inch rockwool cubes to start the plants in and set them on top of the bed of rockwool. Drip one corner of the cube 30 min a day.

I agree with cruzer on nixing the rockwool slabs. Hydroton is a great medium for frequent waterings. I have also found that I personally like higromite better than the hydroton. It is a little more expensive but I have found that the rocks tend to be a little better than the clay. just preference though.

the whole thing is holding it all day but being 'filled' once at lights on, by doin this it should...have the light hours to dry most of the 'food' and then by night it will still have moister, but less, and this will give the roots o2 to do their growing. the 30-45 second was deffinatly!! a rough estamite, er however u spell it. but im gunna look into this hydroton and c wat its about tho fer sure!! thanx fer the advise tho!!!!
