It's just when you use the 8 buckets and all of the other shit they sell you. The reservoir, the "controller" etc, all just a PITA.

But as for a single it's pretty straightforward. Sorry, misunderstood.

Hey Captain, I apologize, but I might've answered a bit too hastily - I'm so used to using bubblers and some people using the words bubbler and rez interchangeably that I just assumed you were using one.

That being said, if you're using something like an E&F or aero or drip, AND your rez is outside of the grow area (doesn't get direct light from your HID or fluoros), then I'd say the issue is probably stemming from your grow media and not your rez; i.e., there might be some algae buildup on your rockwool or somewhere else in your system.

Anyways, let us know what you're running and we could probably point you in a better direction; that being said, it's never a bad idea to light-proof your rez, so at least now you can rule that out as the culprit if the smell comes back.

That makes more sense. Definitely in DWC you NEED to keep that reservoir light sealed, but in this, I would just say you have some funk growing and it's pretty normal. Hydro systems have a bit of stank to them sometimes, like an aquarium and for the same reason. Like I said there are products out there to control this and to create good bacteria in your res to fight off the bad stinky shit. If it's your hydroton that's causign it there's not a lot you can do. Mine smells that way right now nad i just don't worry about it. There may be someone here that can help more with eliminating the odor, but I'm pretty suer we all deal with a bit when growing in hydro.

Agreed, unless you're growing in lab or something there's always gonna be a little something something in there you don't want, but like the OP, I try to nip that stuff in the bud.

Ergo building lots of systems that don't work, it's a pretty sweet gig.

Thanks for the help fellas, things are looking good and the smell is gone so far. I did notice that the roots have grown ALOT since yesterday so I think the light proofing helped.
