Exclamation Fungus gnat larvae in my reservoir!! Need help killing the little bastards.
Hello everyone,
I just got the old ebb and flow goin again. It is a homemade system with a flat bottomed flood table and because it is flat a small amount of water is allowed to collect at the bottom of the tray (about 1/4 inch). I was checking my ph and noticed some little shits floating around in the bottom of the tray. They looked like Fungus gnat larvae. Since I have a little soil thing goin on too they probably came from there. Anyway, I was interested in any tips from others who have had similar issues. They arent causing any problems yet and I dont know if they will have anywhere to live (other than getting washed down into the res.) since i'm using hydroton as a medium, but I dont want to take any chances. Has anyone else had to deal with this?

You need Mosquito Dunks. Available at Home Depot and garden stores. They contain a bacillus that attacks mosquito and fungus fly larvae. Completely safe, no chemicals. I use them with great success. I also use them in dirt- crumble some and mix it in, and water with H2O from a bucket w/ a Mosquito Dunk in it. Again, they really work.

Had this happen to me...kind of look like saw dust floating on top of the water. Found out they were Symphilids. Went absolutely crazy in hydro. Didn't try the dunks but SM90 did not work. Here is a close up...
