Default What advantage does hydro have over soil??
I have had great sucess growing with soil. The only downside is the constant watering and not being able to go away for more than a couple of days.

If i switch to hydro what are the main pro's and con's? Would i be able to leave them for a few days at a time if nesercery?

Also which is the best system to use i have a grow area of about 1m2 possible x2.

I really appreciate any help and advice.

Keep up the good work!!

i believe you got it the other way around. Hydro you need to keep a close eye on because if one equipment fails it becomes a timebomb where u need to defuse the problem.

Soil you can get away for a few days.

For hydro the only thing that comes almost close to soil is rockwool. This is because it holds alot of moisture and won't dry out as fast as other hydro mediums. But if u use rockwool you won't get a better result then going DWC or AERO, aero being the best but alot least forgiving. Aero once the pump runs out or clog in your system you have to fix immediately same thing for dwc but i believe dwc u have a lil time and everything can still be fixable as to aero you can lose a entire crop if power goes out. Hope that explain a few things u wanted answered.

It's all a matter of choice, both have advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:

1. Being able to change and adjust nutrient levels rather easily.
2. PH is easier to keep consistent throughout the entire resevoir, vs. different parts of the soil attaining different ph's.
3. Faster growth, with that said quicker death at times.
4. You can see the roots, that's cool.

Like i said previously though, through every advantage there is disadvantages. Good luck.

Agreed they both ahve there ups and downs. I can leave my hydro go for a few days and they only thing that happens is the pH goes from 5.5 to 5.8. this is inna a 7 day time span. i tested this jus to see if i were to go on vacation how long would it take b4 the babies began to suffer. But it all depends on alot of things, one thing i dontmiss about soil is gettin so dirty and all the bugs at times. i do like not havin to carry water in a bucket down the stairs to fill the 40 gal res.either. Then there's replacing the water which can take forever dependin on ur method. i like hydro cause it finishes a lil faster too. Your pretty much in control of evrything when it comes to hydro. So be prepared to be in the garden more than u already are!!
