Question Flora Kleen & Flora Shield

Has anyone used General Hydroponics's Flora Kleen & Flora Shield? I'm getting ready to put in an order for more nutes (GH 3 part flora series) and was wondering whether these products are worth the extra expense. Both of them would probably be good to have in an emergency situation such as root rot or nutrient lock, but I'm not sure if I should pony out the extra cash. Thoughts, insight, experiences?

Flora Kleen is a flushing aid, like Clearex, and I use them regularly because I flood rockwool slabs, so they can get loaded up with salts. It depends on the medium you use if you need to flush and how often.

Flora Shield is beneficial bacteria and other stuff and is very expensive. I would use enzymes before that stuff, or just use H2O2.

Can you recommend a product which will help stave off root-rot, other than H2O2? You mentioned enzymes, are you partial to any particular product? I'm using a bucket-based ebb and flow system, with my plants in rockwool cubes inside net pots which have hydroton. The only problem with the system is that there is around 2'' of standing water in the buckets, which could cause issues with pathogens and/or root rot, hence the plethora of questions. Any insight would be valued

Oh, and + rep for the help!

hydroguard by botanicare contains active bacteria to do what h202 does. h202 will kill it though. SUpposed to work well. google it, it is like 5 clicks down the page.

Thanks for the info, but their website says that the product is temporarily unavailable pending U.S. Dpt. of Agriculture re-approval lol

The best way to stop rot is keep your res temps down below 75F. If you are using chemical nutes, then H2O2 is the cheapest. Enzymes are used with organic nutrients, I use House&Garden Multi-Zyme and Bud XL, but I don't use them for root rot.

I know this is an old thread but thought i should add my 2 cents and save people the trouble i had. Flora shield sucks i used it once at the recommended dose it killed my plants in 10 hours 8(Don't use it unless your doing organic hydro 8( As for things to combat root rot there is nothing better than food grade peroxide.I should tell you if you have root rot there really is no way to get rid of it not even peroxide will kill it , But it will stop it from progressing and allow you to finish up with a loss in yield 8( It's best to use peroxide at all times if you add 3-5 ml of 35% peroxide every 3-5 days you will not get root rot .But you have to use it as a preventative not a cure . if you use it all the time you will not get root rot when your rez temps get high or if a few dead leaves get in your rez ect. iv'e seen all other methods fail except that one airstones help but dissolving the peroxide strait into the water gives a higher level of oxygen. so by some food grade h2o2 and simply don't worry about it anymore thats what ive been doing for years
