Deep water culture only thread

Hey how deep does the water have to be in order for it to be DWC ????

from my understanding "DWC" is any standing water system where there is no use of water pumps. Just air pumps. So I would guess any water level is DWC as long as there is no undercurrent, that being a RDWC. ....rather young to this but that is my guess.

That water culture is deep, son. :P Especially jelly of the stone setup. I'm going for a 2lb pancake compressor and a wound up air-soaker hose next run...And, shit on me. Those LEDS are secksy.

To you, and all the rest of the DWC'ers in here... I strongly recommend Dutch Master Zone as a product to use. It's not a nutrient, it's a tank conditioner, or whatever they call it. I really love the effects and think you guys will too. You can use it with any synthetic nutes, kinda replaces H2o2 in the system if you use it.

It's something like $27 for a liter, and at 1 ml/gal that's good for 1,000 gallons of rez water. Super cheap, especially for something that works well, at least in my opinion.

Shit. If it keeps my roots as bone bright white as yours, and I don't have to blow $50 a month on 35% h202.....I'm sold.

Only thing in my tank is 4 gal Tap water, 40 ml each DM Grow A+B, 20 ml GH pH down, and 4 ml DM Zone. They seem happy don't they. The zone also does something to the bubbles... makes them smaller. I'll grab some pics I took. I feel like it makes more oxygen dissolve, but have nothing to back that up.

Before zone (big bubbles)

After zone (small bubbles)

Your grow will speed up if you raise the water level, I looked at the picture & can see some cord roots(extra thick) if the water level up to the plant not the net pot but the plant it will not waste that time.GL

On that point... I used to be of the strategy when running clones to have the water level 'close' to the bottom of the net pot. Seemed to work OK. I thought the bubbles would splash the roots encouraging them to grow down... find the water.

This grow, supchaka (another riu member) told me to raise the water so the roots (that had already formed) were underwater. I basically just raised half the tub/ tilted the thing so half were underwater. The roots on them BLEW UP. I quickly raised the water level so that the roots were submerged and you can see the results above. That's about 5 days of root growth from nothing sticking out the net pot.

Totally agree with Jig here. Keep your res about 1/2 to 1 inch under the net-pot for the seedlings, and once they've established about an inch into the soup, cut the top feed/hand feed, and bubble the shit out of 'em. I made the mistake of further pursuing the top-feed @ 8/24. Not necessary. In fact, not worth it at all. I'm running 4 beer can sized stones in a 20g res. Water movement is great for raising DO levels, too. I'm just using a cheap $15 sub pump (used initially for top-feed) (at the cost of 1-2 degrees res temp) that can push the soup around real respectable like.

Update on my first DWC (3rd ever grow, first time HPS), 12/12 started 11/09. Here is today (plant with smaller bud sites in back corner is actually a soil plant) 2 plants in the image.

Just a quick note on top feeding. I never top feed my plants, whether I am starting from seed or clone. My thinking is that I want to encourage my roots downward in search of food, oxygen and water. When they are starting out, I keep the level just under my net pot and usually by the 3rd or 4th day, the roots hit the water.

I will do a foliar feed on occasion with a product by Rock Nutrients called Absorbalight, but I typically wait until I am at least 2 weeks into veg before I do that.

Ive be been using the Dutch master gold range Zone for 2 years in my Rdwc with way better results than hygrozyme or h202 just wanted to vouch for a product I use that had come up. That's all happy growing. Wish you were all here in Colorado.
