Air needs to be coming in from somewhere as well. Without proper intake, there cannot be enough exhaust and the air in the room won't circulate properly. One possible solution is to remove the door from its hinges and cut and/or sand off enough of the bottom of the door to where it hangs a half inch or so from the top of your carpet/hardwood floor/linoleum/etc. You may also want to mount a high CFM computer fan over that 3-inch vent you spoke of to encourage better circulation.

if you want to spend the cash you can get a darkroom louver, they cost about $25 but they are discrete and would solve in intake issue... if your willing to cut a hole somewhere in that door, but again it would be discrete.
