Default Best way to Germinate Seeds?

Getting Ready to start my first seeds, going to use rockwool starter cubes, would it be better to germinate using the papertowel method that everyone describes or could I put the seed directly into the rockwool cubes. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

you could do either one, but if you germinate them with a paper towel, im pretty sure they will sprout quicker. peace

-->Put seeds in glass of water for 24 hours. They should sink. Sometimes you might need to stir/swish the water around to make them sink. If they havent sunk by 24 hours, they are normally bad seed(s)

-->Use the paper towel method (Wet paper towel in a ziplock baggie).

It will take about 2-3 days (2 days normally).

    Hope this helps,

you can use the paper towel method, or soak them in water for 24 hours, by then the heathy ones should have cracked, most will have a little bit of the tap root out also....Now you can stick the cracked ones in the rockwool taproot down....they should sprout up in 24-72 hours if they are nice healthy beans.

how long after the seeds have sprouted do I wait before I use Nutrients, and also what are some of the better brands of nutrients. also is a 24hr light period during veg. better than 18/6.

There have been some heated discussions on this forum about this topic. Try and run a search using the key word '18/6' to read about the actual facts that determine the answer to this question; there have been some really good posts explaining why 18/6 is better for the plant.

But in short, 18/6 is the way to go. Plants can only photosynthesize up to 18 hours and day and some dark period is important for health root development. Anymore light in a day is overkill.

Some people might try to tell you that they have seen faster growth with 24 hours of light, but the difference is marginal. I personally have never noticed a difference.

I would germ them in a paper towel after soaking.I will be a foreverf 24/7 believer.I have used both and 24 hours always out does 18/6 for health and growth rate.No nutes for a couple weeks. but I endorse Fox Farm Grow big, big bloom and tiger bloom..Good luck
