too soon or to late

first time growing and I started to flush with distlled water a week ago but now Im wondering if I should have waited a little longer is it to late to put nutes back in and keep flowering thanks for any help.the buds are 60% red on the bottom half but the very tops are only like 10%.They have been flowering for about 7 to 8 weeks 3 months old total areoponic foxfarm nutes 400 hps

looks like mine i'm wondering the same thing the very top of the buds are white new growth hairs and the ones that are underneath are red. i know my temps have been high due to the humid weather but its making me wonder if i should pick or keep going?

When the hairs are no longer standing up and are curled and dead then your buds are ok to pick.If you want to check with a magnifying glass or a scope then you want about 80-90% amber trichomes

looking good buddy... get a loupe magnifying glass 30x at radio shack and check those trichomes!

The color of your trics determines the high.

You must wait regardless until all trics are milky, that is when the trics are loaded with THC. After that its your choice, milky trics give you a more cerebral buzz, while amber trics are more of a narcotic feeling. If you wait until 80-90% of your trics are amber, you will be close to the point in which it becomes too late to harvest! Been there, done that. If you like the "narcotic high" wait until its about 60/40 or 70/30, at 80% your pushing it (imo). If you want the cerebral buzz wait until its all milky (a few will be amber naturally, and you will also have a couple clear, this is normal).

As for this idea of waching the pistils "hairs" to determine when its ready, this is a big mistake. My last grow had new growth (white hairs) on it but the trics were 60% amber. I (one time outdoors) waited too long to harvest, all my bud died and fell off, but then I had new growth come back on. So I believe (no pro here) that it will continue with new growth until harvested. Buy a mini microscope from radio shack for $12 and check the trics.

sry i meant 80-90% of the hairs will be amber and dead and theres should also be a little bit of white hairs left but the buds should not be growing anything new when you harvest them.As for trichs 60-80% is at or around peak potency on most strains,harvesting your buds early with milky trichs will only reduce yield.If you want a head high go for a strain that gives that type of feeling.Cannabis is most potent when its harvested at peak potency right before the THC starts to degrade.. any later or any earlier is less then ideal, but thats just my opinion.

80% (Pistils) is good if its a Sativa I go with 70-80 cloudy trichs , amber trichomes is bad if its a Sativia it will give you a down buzz and a headache. Now if its a Indica all amber trichs is best.
