well.. in theory it should use 250W when on.. if you want to know how much money it will cost you'll have to check the price of 1 kWh with your energy supplier and then do some math.

about the distance between the light and the plants.. there's no exact rule for that. my opinion is: you should place your hand on top of your taller plant and if you feel it's too hot, so does your plant.

dude a 250w isnt much at all, its like running a small desktop computer for eighteen hours a day

Try 14-18inches but if your just using 250 then 14-inches or even 12 would be good. I have A 600 and its at 18inches. and also do what phreaker said with the hand under the light thing too. I also have a 18inch string from the reflector with a penny taped on the bottom so its straight and when the plants reach the penny then its time to move the light up.
