What is curing?

What exactly is the purpose of curing buds? I've read a bit and understand the process of curing and that it increases potency... but what does it actually do?

Is it about allowing the buds to break down slightly to activate THC? Why does it need to be done in an airtight container? What is the purpose of 'burping'?

Sorry I know it's a lot of questions that nobody really NEEDS answers for, as long as we have guide, but I just like to understand how things work.

If anyone can answer any of these questions that'd be great. thanks!

well since u cant smoke ur bkuds straight off the plant cuz they are wet u gotta Cure em to dry them out enough for smoke'n... the better Cured the better they smoke.

hang your buds to dry in a cool, dark place for 10-14 days. humidity should be 50-55%. when they're dried (the buds should snap off the branches but have a little bend to them b4 they break off) place the buds in an airtight container (bag, ziplock, tupperware or mason jars which i prefer) make sure you still keep them in a cool dark place. 3-4 times a day, burp them. what is burping? simple, all you do is open the container for 10-15 seconds and fan some fresh air into them with your hands. this allows the excess humidity to escape, and fresh air to get into the container. you should also turn or shake the container lightly once or twice a day to separate the buds so they cure evenly. minimal curing should take at least 2 weeks. after that, you can leave your buds in the same container, in a cool, dark place and smoke them at will. i personally cryvac mine after about 2 weeks or so. they'll last for up to 5 years without losing potency or taste if they're cryvac'd from what ive read. mine have never hung around that long but i know they're still deadly after 5 months, hehe.

curing itself allows the rest of the humidity to be drawn out from the center of the bud thats left over after drying, and be distributed evenly throughout the bud. you get a more consistent smoke and better flavor. curing buds properly allows the inactive canabinoids to be turned back into active canabinoids and THC which will greatly increase the potency of your pot . do it right, and enjoy! haha

Well said. The concept of cureing is to slow the dring process down to a crawl. Slower the better.

one thing i forgot sens1, burping is essential because if you dont get the excess humidity out of the containers, it can soak back into the buds thus causing them to MOLD, which is not a good thing, lol. It does sound like an arduous process but, its well worth it to have a nice stash of weed that will truly fuck-start your head, rather than a quarter of mediocer green that you'll get on the streets. alot of the stuff you get on the streets hasnt even been cured. most growers/dealers just want to get it off their hands as soon as possible. have you ever gotten weed that was still to damp to stay lit properly? probably wasnt dried or cured properly. or, have you gotten weed that just crumbles apart like dust? probably just dried too fast (with a heater of some kind) or dried too long.

give curing a rip, just follow my instructions and i know you'll be dedicating your first crop of properly cured weed to me, right after you wake up, hahaaa.
