Unhappy Drying Temperature, Please Help
Hello,

I have been searching thru alot of threads trying to find the answer and some same between 60 to 65 and some say 65 to 75.

I need to know what is the lowest temp possible. The only place I can hang/dry is in the attic and the temp at night is around 50 to 55. I'm not sure on the temp during the day, because I have not checked yet.

Please, if anyone can let me know if this would be too cold to try and dry them...or maybe what I can do to raise the temp in the attic. The only thing I can think of that might rasie it a little is to seal off all the attic vents...I dont know if this is a good idea or not.

Thanks,

Jon

.

Lower teperatures will not hurt the bud, it will just take longer to dry. Chances are the if its 50-55 at night you will be right on with daytime temperatures. A fan moving air gently over you bud will help.

Not only is it not a good idea its a bad idea. In order for your house insulation to work properly it needs to stay dry. This requires ventilation. So does the drying process.
If this is the only place you have then you will be fine. Put a fan up there to keep the air moving. Make sure all of the vents are open. It may take a few more days thats all. VV

the attic is perfect, 65 degrees is the ideal temp so no lower than 60 degrees if you can. no fan either this is for quick dry only. leave them 21 days max then do the burp the jar curing for 2 months then you should have good budd.

RollItUp does it again...this forum rocks!!! There are always great people here willing to help out.

As for the temp thing...I dont mind if it takes longer...I mean I want to finish it, but if it takes longer its ok. I was just nervous that the lower temp would cause mold or etc.

I'm not trying to cause any long winded debate, however what should be done about using the fan or not. One person says yes, the other says no...could either of you maybe explain why it would/would not be a good idea to use it.

Also...widowman had mentioned about the temp as long as it does drop below 60. What will happen if it does go below that temp? because more then likly it is going to happen again soon and I dont know what to do in the attic to prevent this.

Thanks again,

Jon

PS: Just a small update on my girls...I've been hit by that freaking bud worm and it did a very bad number on 2 of them. What I thought was normal looking, turned out to be the signs of worms...I cant believe how many people are being effected by this.

id seal off your vents or leave one open and try testing the temp. 50 degrees is a bit cool.

Please dont think I want to waste your time by asking this question, its just that as a newbie, I'm trying to understand why certain things are the way they are...meaning, when you say 50 degrees is a bit cool....but how will this effect the plant? Will it just take longer to dry, or will it begin to mold, or loose THC count, etc etc.

I had a thought on maybe trying to hang 2 mil clear plastic inside the attic, in a square shape around the plants and fan...I'm not sure if this would work, what do some of you pro's think?

I also forgot to mention...before going into the attic to setup the basic things, I turned on the heat for the whole house and when I went into the attic, I noticed a huge difference in temps...yes I know part of being a newbie is not being able to think things completely thru...anyways...the temp reading in the attic was around 80 to 75 when the heat was turned on. The heat for the house would not be running 24/7, however it might be turned on for a small amount of time, to keep my family and I from freezing. Does anyone see a problem with this? Aside from needing to know the lowest temp to dry without casuing any problems...what would be the highest temp to dry in?

Hoping to find get the answer to drying at lower temp,
Jon

When hanging to dry, heat is the problem, not so much cool temps. The other problem is mold, so for the first few days I keep a fan running in the room, never blowing on the buds, just moving air a little. I hang the buds from the ceiling, and the fan is blowing across the floor.

You've got to understand, the art of curing is to slow down the drying time, and allow the biological processes to take place. Kinda like fermenting, it takes time.

If your attic has some temp swings, be careful with the heat, and keep a close eye on the buds. When they start to feel crunchy, seal them up. Total hanging time is determined by how much moisture is left in the plant, and how big the hanging branches are, as well as the environment.

Hi guys,

This is my first post but I've been looking at this site quite a while. Anyways, I too have a question regarding the temperatures for drying. I'll just give you the heads up on my set up and I'll appreciate any advise.

k,
I've a 1.2m * 1.2m * 2m grow room packed with 9 plants that are looking pretty close to complition. I'm living in Ireland and the growroom is in my shed and average day/night temperatures are around 15/8 degrees or 59/46 Fahrenheit. I've read and respect what some of the guys have been saying about the fine art of drying slowly however I'm a little worried my temps are to low. Can anyone advise me if,
1. The night temp is to cold,
2. Am I likely to have bud mold or should I be fine
3. Should I have a fan circulating the lower part of the room (not on the buds them selves) just to help drying a bit
4. What is the maximum humidy that is acceptabe to prevent against mold keeping in mind the temps
5. How long would I expect in drying time
6. Should I use the attic, which maybe a little warmer (I have not checked yet, sorry)

Sorry guys, I know that a tall order but it's important to know as this is my first grow and so far everything has gone well. Now I just want to dry and cure to perfection.

ps. I think some of the advice so far has been excellent, I've learnt a lot looking on this site. Great work lads.

wow...I think my thread was just hijacked...anyways.

Well, the weather in brooklyn NY went from warm to cold....so I have a new problem with the drying temp.

At around 11pm it was about 60F and went to 56F by 4am.

I dont mind it taking longer to dry if that will be the problem....I need to know if the low temp will cause mold or any other issue I didnt think of. Please someone let me know.

Aside from letting me know if the temp I mentioned above will cause mold....what is the lowest temp you can have to dry.

Thanks again guys for all the help.

PS: With the temps being around 50's to 60's do I still use the fan or not?
