Some advice on My drying Box

HI all

I am a noob and have a grow gowing on at the minute and i am in my final 2 week flush before harvest. Just using plain Ph6 water.

I have made a drying box to dry my plant and was wondering whether it will work ok without any exhaust etc.

Check out my pics.

I do plan on leaving an Oscilating fan on oscilating through the room so that it hits the holes that i have created in my box.

The box is approx 1.5ft x 1.5ft x 3.5ft. I have ran string through the top in zig zags about 5 inches below the top of the box. I have cut a hole at the bottom about fist sized and a hole at the top on the opposite side.

Do you all experienced growers think that this will work fine?

I have 8 branches on my plant which i will be cropping and hanging whole. Approximate dry weight i think will be around the 2oz mark.

anything to add or that i should think about adding to my dry box?

Many thanks and +rep for all those with valid suggestions.

Hi Jon,

You're going to want to have that fan right up to the hole, or even better have a fan feeding straight into the hole.

If you have the lights on in the room it's would be best to add a chamber on each hole. So duct taping a small box with a hole in it onto the hole. This is because light degrades THC at this point

add another small box to the side of it to keep light out and mount a small computer fan of some sort pulling air through the box constantly... will work good :)

For the most part you don't need a fan at all. That's my set up - the hole. I put a black garbage sack over and open it once a day. rh at 40 and temps around 70-75 dry in 3-5 days. I keep a very small fan in the box just to move air around.

thanks for all the advice guys. Muchos Gracias.lol

I think i will go for a culmination of each of your ideas.

lights will not be on in the room as my grow is in a closet in the same spare room.

Just incase i think i will mount a small box on each of the holes and blow a small fan into the bottom hole to keep the air moving through the box.
And use a sack like STUMPS suggested over the box.

I will try this on my first harvest and let you all know how it went.

Thanks guys for the info im gonna +rep you all

hey golddog
what have you done for air circulation ???

I have a computer fan inside just to get it circulating for the first day or so. Today I have a fan blowing from above.

My room temp is 65 degrees and relative humidity ranges between 40-50%.

So it really depends on where you are, like daily temperature & local humidity. You just don't want to dry it to quick if you can help it.

In the summer if I just hang them up, they will dry in 2-3 days.

You could hook up a computer fan to that hole if you wanted. :bigjoint:

I just went to the electronics store and bought little transformers and hooked them up. The fans only run one way, so check them before you solder. Also if you are going to run more that one fans, check the output of the transformer, as I have fried them.

I currently have 4 computer fans running in my Phototron.

C ya - time for a Fatty and Jaquizzi :bigjoint:

Ok Now what do you all think.

I have used a Computer Motherboard fan as an exhaust at the top and i have also split open a Computer POwer supply unit and taken the 12 v fan from that for the bottom. The bottom fan is slightly bigger than the top one.

I have connected these in the following ways

Firstly i managed to find an old power adaptor for a Print Server box. It is a 12v power adaptor.

I cut the connector off the end and connected them into a little electrical block. I then connected the first fan that would be located at the bottom of my box then i connected a longer wire to run up to the top of my box and connected another fan using another electrical connector block.

I then tested that they worked and they did work fantastically.

I then got 2 small cardboard boxes and cut one side off it.
I then stencilled around my fans and cut a hole in the cardboard. I screwed the fans onto my cardboard boxes and then gaffa taped the little boxes to my drying boxe and turned it on. It works GREAT.

Thanks for all the info guys and gals.

Do you think there will be anything else i need to add to my box????

dont listen about the part about light degrading thc. people dry bubble hash which is pure thc in light and it doesnt seem to effect the hash. ive dryed a couple of harvests in with my lights on and it had no effect on the weed. nice post tho im thinking about making a dryer like that myself

Im sure that will work well. Let us know how it works

You know what might be a future improvement, make a square carbon filter for your exhaust.

Ive done this in the past but i over dried, fans were to big and box was to small

I think this will work, bone dry in 5days max.
