I will soon (tomorrow) be finished growing my first batch and have been drying small amounts to smoke while the majority finishes. It looks great and smells great on the plant, mostly red hairs and tons of ripe trichomes, totally sticky and stinky (in a good way). Problem is, the stuff smells terrible as I dry it! I have never smelled such bad pot in my life, and I normally love the smell of pot but this stuff makes me nauseous. It hadn't been flushed yet, but could that really make that much of a difference? It tastes OK, a bit harsh but I figured it just wasn't completely finished drying yet. Please help with your ideas, did I screw something up?

Sometimes the cure will change the scent and taste of a plant. I have some Blue Berry that smells bad to me but after a couple weeks in cure it tastes great. I like GK wanna know what it smells like.....

Most weed smells a bit strange when it is cut and starts going through the curing process, remember that it needs to get rid of the chlory to stop being a plant and bcome a narcotic, this process sometimes smells a bit like wet fresh cut grass, thats because thats what it is, make sure it's drying in a dark place or the plant will try to live off the light and continue to try and photosynphasize, as the days go by, making sure it doesn't dry too much pace the buds into a jar and then go through the usual curing stages as posted on here in much detail in many places. Weed gets better everyday and I find that it's near perfect after almost 3 weeks, but patience is something that comes hard to someone who can smoke more than he can make, or buy.

Ive noticed this several times when Ive take small samples to get me by. It almost smells like hay.. to me, I guess since it wasnt ready. or mature enough. And then other times Ive had mold problems, and that gives it a terrible smell. I just found some of my purp that had mold on it last night. I had to toss out over an oz.

Thanks so much for your replies everyone! It smells like hay a little I suppose, but not really like fresh grass which is what I'd assumed they'd smell like because of the clorophyl. I'd say it smells mostly like hay mixed with a little chemicals, not really like mold (does moldy pot smell like moldy cheese, or does it just smells bad, like court said?) But not AT ALL like good pot. I am keeping it in a dark room, like Tee said, and venting it every so often to keep air circulating (it's the bathroom). How will I know when it's time to jar it up; I heard when the stem snaps, and I've heard to do it right before? I guess the curing process takes longer than I thought, I was hoping a week would be sufficient but I guess if I want hay/chemical smell gone I have to muster up some patience

moldy weed smells like ammonia.. im sure yours isnt moldy though. b.c you would see it for one looks like little spider webs all over it. But I always wait until the stems snap or I feel the buds, and if they feel crispy, theyre usually ready.

In the bathroom ?? As in english terms, as in where the bath is ?? Well that might make it a little more moist than in any other toom, but as long as it is sealed and in the dark.

I have had trouble with weed smelling off, but I was assured that its just genetics, If the rest of the plants are ok then it could well be a case of bad genetics. As a young guy off here told me ... When you purchase a pack of seeds we are only supposed to find the one genetic strain we like to take care of to make a mother plant, and so if we are growing from seed and not cloning, then we will have these troubles with rogue plant genetics.

Mine smelt piney and of Pot Pourri, but when smoked smells fine (says the girlfriend )

Lol, yes Tee, in the bathroom as in where the bath is. But we're not using it so there's no excess moisture. I am going to try doing a very slow cure and hopefully this will take care of my weird smell. I'll let you know how it goes...

Any time after 2 weeks does ot for me, IF I can be patient!4
