Default do you have to turn the lights off for 2 days before?

Hey do you have to turn off the lights 2-3 days before harvest? i stopped watering them for 3 days before but i have other plants in the same area, so im not sure about turning off the lights.
So whats the point of turning off the lights for a few days?

ok so the lights off triggers the plant to go into rapid ripening or something.
