Default curing with rice in tha jar
We put rice in salt shakers to remove humidity. Why not put a lil in during cure or storage to help prevent mold?

it might work, it seems logical

ever hear of putting orange and lemon peels in the jar to add moisture smell and flavor?

It sounds like a good idea to me

They put rice in salt shakers down south to help keep the humidity from clumping it together.

I have heard of it (lemon and orange rinds). I would try someone elses first.

dont do it bro, someone else like 3 months ago had the same idea and i remember him posting back like 3 days later he got infested w/ mold, just tryna stop you from fuckin up some bud, but then again it could have been his conditions, you would probably have to change the rice daily cause it absorbs so much but only so much you know? good luck either way bud

Thanks for the info. I could see this happening if you tried to dry it this way. It should be pretty dry when it time to cure or for storage. I am going to try a lil bud with a baby food jar and see what happens.

Another thing to consider is salt is a preservative... So, rice in the salt shaker doesn't have to contend with mold. I took a jar put rice in it and a humidity meter in there left sealed for 5 hours. The humidity went from 78 to 66. Without a preservative the rice would probably mold after time. So it would probably be a good idea to change the rice out after a few days. But it would remove any moisture from the bud in those days and keep the bud from molding. Or put a salt shaker with rice in it both would remove moisture and inhibit mold.

this idea has occurred to me too, though i haven't tried it yet
it could, in part, defeat the purpose of the cure - i.e. slow drying
it will tend to keep humidity levels lower in the jar
on the other hand, that's good as it may reduce the chance of mold
so keep us posted, +rep for trying the idea

i guess a test is in order,,Im almost ready to harvest so this will work out fine.. 3 jars . 1 test jar with a bud in it. 2 with a bud and rice. 3rd with a bud and salt shaker with rice in it.( not sure what effect salt would have on thc co I will leave it in the shaker I think the 3rd one has potential. More to follow.

if you would, make a measure of rice to weed, that will be critical to the humidity level
