i have heard alot of people say harvest when the hairs on the plant are 50% milky white and 50% clean white. .but i have also heard 50% milky white and 50% orange. i have always harvested when 1/3 of the hairs are orange...
can anyone clairfy this for me? i am trying to harvest when they are just right. and BTW i don`t have a microscope or anything like that, i am just going to go with the hair color methd.

The hairs you're talking about are the trichomes. You would need a microscope to see those. But if you go by the visible hairs on the flowers, when they have all turned orange and curled in to the flowers is a good enough sign that they are almost ready. If you got the money spare you should get yourself a mini scope or jewelers loupe, as looking at the trichs is a fun and educational thing to do

FYI: 50% amber trichs is a good standard

i am acually talking about the pistils, not the trichs. and i have always heard when all of them turn orange then thc has been peaked and has degraded.

I believe, that the trichs, once they all turn orange/brown that the THC has peaked and it starts to degrade.

As far as the hairs goes, the other poster is correct. All or just about all of the hairs need to turn brown. Sometimes, I might still have a white hair or two on my buds, but most of the hairs have turned brown.

You cannot go by the hairs. Their colors vary from strain to strain and from plant to plant. You have to examine trichs under high magnification. A 30x loupe will do but a real microscope is better. You can pick up good vintage and used microscopes from ebay cheap and they are amazing. Like standing in a forest of trichs. I just got a perfect Tasco for $15.

Anyway, you want to look at trichs from locations all over the plant. They don't simply progress from clear to cloudy to amber, you will see all 3. You need to take a sort of average from 6 or more locations. You want to see at least 25% amber trichs, forget the clear and amber.
