'been getting two mothers going in the veg cabinet: arjan's ultra haze #1 (holy stretch batman), and barney's farm blue cheese (happily at the wife's request). first batch of clones is going to be run straight so as to dial-in nutes/watering, etc; then 2nd run's going to be with some experimental 'biodynamic-inspired' lighting regime i've been mulling over... we'll see what happens with that...

def look'n forward to the cheese... but the stretch on the a.u.h. is gonna kill me and my (sorta) stealth grow. 'not a whole lot of 'head' room (spatially speaking) for an f-ing tree.
'going to have to top and lst the plants going into the veg/flower cabinet... but this is where, i think, one of the many advantages of using a good ufo led setup comes in.
have you grown either of those strains? any suggestions for a gonzo organic soil-growing mad scientist??

Yeah I have some advice Gonzo, go with Fiming instead of top. But only if you fim at 4-6" high, oh and make sure they are clones from a mature mother. That way when you fim you will have 4-8 tops at 8" high and you can induce flowering. POW POW POW! Oh and clone gel, yeah don't get it on the mother at all, Experiment went bad!


I put some on the cuts I made from taking clones, well it blew up like steroids at the bottom and all above quit growing, completly for 2 weeks. So I thought I would rub some gel on top stem, why not. Well here's why not~ it grew out where ever the gel was wiped, so I have not a round stem but a stem with odd growth all over. LOL My wife was not happy.

fim-ing certainly makes sense over topping. my only reservation would be about weakened cola development over the doubly extended branch network, especially with a stretchy sativa like the a.u.h. but is there likely to be much difference in either yield or potency, all other conditions being equal, between fim vs topping combined with lst?

also btw, i noticed in your latest grow pics that you've vegged for 10-11 weeks... what sort of nutrient schedule do you run with that? is that veg period particular for those strains? in short, what's the advantage of extended veg growth?

When you grow straight, the hormones go mainly straight up the meristem and make a top POTENT cola, and then the everything below is much smaller and less potent.
When you top, you are rerouting hormones to lower branches and causeing them to grow as topped area heals, great for after a fim, if one branch gets way higher than other.
Lsting, I really don't dig, I just kinda pull the limbs a little in flowering to open up the middle or certain areas.
FIM will (at 4-6") willhave the hormones flow evenly across the new tops that where forced from fim, so now you have a 8" plant with 4-6 tops that will grow like a nice bush, the Potency will be even as opposed to straight grow and also your yeild may be higher. My record is 7.5 oz . I want to break my record this grow. I shoot for 4-8oz per plant.
Also after the fim and once plants mature, you take off all the branches below fim and clone them.
My nutrients scedule is like this~
Seeds sprout, wait for cotyldon leaves to turn yellow, then give 1/4 strength nutes. Every watering.
2 weeks later bump it up to 1/2 and watch (every watering).
3-4 weeks later all is well, full strength, every watering.

I then start useing Amino Aid on the slow, and Extreme Serene (kelp) for vigor.
Molases once a week in veg, good for the microrganism that live in the soil. They help take care of roots and keep them promblem free.
Hydorgen Peroxcide 3% one cap per gallon every time. Adds a molecule to water that helps more oqygen to stick around roots.
Ph is always 6.5 after 2 week above ground, seeds and seedlings 6.3.

The longer you veg, the more nodes (potential bud sites) also the longer you veg the more hormones (auxins) flowing through plant. The more leafs that gather in the sun/co2. Stronger healthier plant/roots.
When you veg and get into the 8-9th week, you start to see a difference, and its like NICE she is finally getting there. I mean she starts to fill out all the lil nooks. And she just gets full and you will want to veg longer knowing that she is a rageing Hormono female that will keep getting fuller and more Hormones. MMMMMMMmm

I feed every watering, and my Skunk#1 feeds every other day. Never a promblem.
What I do to keep salt build up away (as much as I can with out flushing) is I sit my plants on some PVC pipe that is 1/2 thick and sitting in a larger bucket. Then I give them each one gallon of feed/water and let it drain out completly. Then I go back in a few hrs and lift plants up, grab container with dirty water/feed and sit plants back down. Toss water in a bigger bucket, then at night I throw it on shrubs around house.
Flushing washes away good microrganism and not flushing creates salt build up, so I just ebb and flow getto style useing only clean and fresh water/nutes.
I do flush 2 weeks before harvest. But I stick with cha ching and Molases till harvest.
P.s. I always veg Hard, as I always want a potent and high Yeild

it was c8" for an extended veg as you outline there? how much vertical growth did you get during flower? what size pot were you growing in?

i think i like lst because of its bondage connotations, but am readily being sold on the obvious merits of fim (and will just have to find other ways of working out these pynchononian tendencies ).

that's a really great nute schedule. whachya runn'n with? i've been liking fox farm (i know, i know... it's not compost and isn't true organic ) augmented with blue mountain spt (and blackstrap of course) on top of distilled water. i wonder what h2o2 would do to the rhizosphere? i'm rather partial to those microbes...

WOw she is a beauty fer sure!
I start my seeds off in a 16oz cup with lots of bottom holes. (after paper towel germ).
Then after a few weeks I go into 1 gallon and let the roots sit in there and get nice and fat. They run out of room so they get fat instead of running thin around a large pot. Then I go with a 3 gallon, Makes for a big root ball and thick roots (going small to large pots). I need a 5 gallon 2-3 weeks before going to flower, but could not afford it this time.

I use Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil, and all the line up. Grow Big~Tiger Bloom and the additives Open sesame, bestie bloomz, and CHA CHING. I don't use the nute with the fox on it, all that is, is like bat guano and such for your soil, and you need 1/2 cup the first week. I just "try" and replant in a 5 gallon (fresh soil good for 2 months) before going 12/12.

Look at your lady and think what would she look like if I fimed her (too late) at 4 nodes high? Look at the bottom 4 you could have cloned and then all above that would be a new set of tops. Beats topping IMO.
I was never a topper unless I had one top out growing others (after a fim).
I would fim once wait 2 weeks and fim all those tops, lol I had a shrub of 23 tops. Yeah thatw as my 7.5oz and Dam potent. TW or something. (strain)
