No, but it will cause mold, more than likely.

the safest way to go about something like this that i've read on this forum was using just an orange peel.. and letting it air out frequently!!!!

apparently it was dry enough to avoid mold but gave off somewhat of a citrus aroma and taste.

I am no expert but I believe that the only reason you would add any orange peel or something like that is to regain the moisture in case you have left it out too long and it has become a bit too dry. The orange peel will give some of the moisture back.

I do know you don't use strawberries. LOL
