hey looks like i got a bit of mold on a couple of my larger buds that I'm curing. See attached as it doesn't look like too much.

Whats the best way to get rid of it?

CAn I smoke any of it that was with this bud? Should I trim area that was molded?

Trim what you can.
Moisten and then set out to dry with good air circulation.
Move around and roll buds once in a while.

Cure again.
SHould be ok if the mold has not taken the whole of the buds.

Yes, trim off all of the mold, and toss it. Then take the remaining mold-free bud, put into sealed container, like a jar, and put in the freezer for a day or 2. That will kill any remaining spores and keep it from spreading. Then continue with your cure, or drying.

Ok first, how do I re-moisten the bud? (from midgrade comment)

second, I thought you should not put bud in the freezer due to the trichs rupturing at freezing? (from potroast comment) if it's safe to do so, then I'll do that also to kill off the spores.

last, the 60-100x loop is great at seeing the mold as the spores stand straight up off the leaves(like trichs) but they have fuzzy tops. unless that's the trichs molding.

would water cure method keep this from happening or kill off any spores that I can't see with the naked eye? Obviously I don't want to smoke the mold stuff and I won't, but I'm afraid of what I don't see more than what I do see.

Well, moisture is what made it easy for the mold to grow in the first place, so when you are trying to get rid of the mold, you don't want to rewet the bud. You want to dry it, and stop the mold from spreading.

You're worried about losing all of your bud to mold, so putting it in the freezer is a last-ditch resort. I wouldn't worry about rupturing trikes...

lol jUzSmokEIt...I'll send the mold coverd stuff to you

thanks for the replies folks. I put all my stuff in a vacuum sealed canister and sent it to the freezer for a couple of days to kill whatever spores are there. I went with my 60x scope to check individual pilez of everything I had, and ended up pulling almost 3/4oz out to ditch. None were as bad as the one bud, but anywhere I saw strands or webbing, I took out. I think I got close to 4 oz remaining. I need long term storage anyway as this is all a personal stash and should last long enough to get my 2nd grow done with.

I'm not as worried about freezing as much as losing the harvest, so I agree with potroast. It also looks like the consensus is that freezer shouldn't harm it too much, as that's where I'm reading a lot of people store it after sealing it. We'll see.

the odor was what first gave it away. Not too terribly bad, but I'd rather have the nice smell of pot instead of the acidic smell that was forming.

Way to go! And now that you've smelled that smell, you'll always recognize it, and will be able to detect it earlier. Every time I open a curing tin, the first thing I do is take a sniff.

The nose knows.

thats right, and though the first grow ended with 4 different plants (2 harvested at 8 weeks, and these last two at 12 and 13) each had a different smell. The funny thing is, the smell kinda fooled me at first thinking it was the chlorophyll exiting the leaves. I went through that with my first two plants and things ended up danky and fine...not so fortunate this time. I got drawn into a long 4th holiday and left for 2 days unchecked...now whether it was the cause I'm not sure, but never again...if I take a break, I'd rather leave the lids off the canisters. Better too dry but smokeable than in the trash like that 3/4?
