I've water cured in the past.
Last time i did, the morning of the 6th day, my bud started to dissolve in the water. I have no idea why, my only thought is i ph'd the water to low? Anyway, Getting close to harvesting, thought i'd try a shorter water cure, followed by a 1-3 day air dry. Drying after water cure is very quick. Then into mason jars for any final cure/ storage. As i grow for personal use only, i'm not worried about the weight loss from the cure. Anyone who has tried the shorter water cure, feel free to share results, as will I. Cut a tester off each plant on 1/27/09 for the game on sunday. 1 was water cured until 1/30/09 then hung to dry, the other was just hung to air dry, on the 27th. Seem to be dry enough. Both are now in mason jars untill 2/1/09 when i'll roll it (them) up and post results monday. Short time in jars, i know but cut 'em tuesday, knowing they'd be gone on sunday. |

I dont know how much you are curing but use a bigger container - I used a 5 gallon bucket for 1/4 of the nastiest brick weed ever with filtered tap water. The first 2 days the water was nasty and then it trickled off. I would say that after day 4 the extra days were not doing much but I did it for a full 7 days with no issues.
I was very careful not to disturb the buds. They were in a collender with a lid on it and I siphoned the water in and out so they would be disturbed as little as possible and I made sure to rinse the bucket well everyday. The harsh unsmokable brick weed turned into some glorious smoke. My buddy was commented on the smoothness - I said that is $20 for a 1/4 shit weed and he couldnt believe it. The water curing de bricked everything too. I didnt jar mine, I just dried took a day and put it in a baggie in my smoke box. |

As for brick weed, i usually just open the baggie, and pop in in my humidore for a day or 2, just untill the buds get nice and fluffy, then into jars till consumed.

Is that your girl in your avatar?
This was really bad brick - It had something sprayed on it I have never smoked anything so harsh and nasty. After the cure it was pretty decent. Surprised me how good it turned out. How did you change the water? I was overly careful with mine - I used a 1/8 inch tube to siphon the water in and out of the bucket. If you are concerned about deterioraton I would use the biggest vessel you could find and you should be able to cut the time. In theory twice the volume of water would mean it would take 1/2 the time to get the same result. You could find bigger vessels or spit your crop in half and do two cures with the same vessel. Just a thought. |
