Default Where did I go wrong?
I got 9.5 ounces from my last grow. My problem is its very harsh to smoke.

When I dried it, I hung the plants for 10 days in the BudBox I grew them in. Averaged 19c temp and 35% humidity, perfect drying conditions. I checked on the plants every few days to check the progress. I had checked a few different sites on when to take them down. I waited till the stems snapped, rather than bent. The plants seemed VERY dry. The buds are very light and dry.

I cut the buds from the plants and put each plants buds into separate jars so I could smoke each plant individually. I open the jars once or twice a day as directed by different sites but I am not sure why I am doing it. I thought it was to expel excess moisture, but my buds are dry as a bone? I have always preferred my smoke dry, but not like this. Its so harsh I can barely smoke it. The high is OK, not as great as I thought it would be. Its White Widow from Dutch Passion.

I have heard about putting a leaf or potato peel in the jar to add moisture - but will that stop it being so harsh?

Why is it not as high a smoke as I thought it would be. It was a perfect grow?

Why is it so terribly harsh. Is it the dryness?

I flushed the plants for 4 weeks before harvest so I know its not nutrients making it taste so bad.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received. My grow journal is below so you can see if I made a fundamental error somewhere?

You dried them to much. Putting them in the jars forces the moisture from the center of the buds to the outer parts. I always dry until just the tips are dry then I put them in jars, within a day the tips are moist again, and if too moist I will take them out for another day. If they are dryer than I like I'll put some moist buds in the jars with them but if they are bone dry I'm not sure how well that will work but its worth a shot. You can also put lettuce in with them also.

Hanging them for 10 days probably dried them too much. You can place an orange peel in with them for about a day. Not too much or it will mold. Then just continue curing them for a while.

I'd reccomend some type of fruit in there like an orange peel, but like the guy above me said not too long or it will mold. I'm sure there's something you can do to reduce the harshness.

Gonna try some orange peel, see if it improves things.

I agree that 10days was too much... I thought mine turned out too dry after curing and i hang dried for only 2 days stuck in in a paper bag for 3 and cured for 2 weeks.. I was trying to achieve a sticky moist bud at the same time avoiding bud rot which was my problem my last time... Im still learning too.

OK, I put orange peel in each jar. Not too much, just a small piece in each. It did the job overnight. The jars were a bit misty so I opened them all for 15mins, I turned all the buds and then repeated the same process. They all moistened up nicely. Its a much easier smoke. The harshness has all but gone.

The problem still lies in the quality of the smoke.

6 of the plants were White Widow feminised from Dutch Passion. I got them from a local seed broker in London and they arrived sealed in Dutch Passion packets. I have never had any doubts to the quality of the seeds I had.

2 of the plants were just bagseed. They were 4, then just 2 females. They both grew bigger and larger than the White Widow and had to be strung up to hold the buds. I expected them to be the runts of my grow, but they both yielded great.

Why is the smoke not great. Its a nice, chilled relaxing smoke. Its not a couch lock smoke by any means. Just mediocre smoke - great for some. Not for me.

I like hard banging heady THC laden smoke. This was the reason I chose White Widow. I chose a premium brand.

The bag seed were the same, medicore stuff.

I harvested when the trichromes where 60% cloudy, there where odd dark brown trichromes - they looked dead, not amber. The rest of the trichromes were clear. The plants looked done - I waited till day 79! I wanted a nice smoke, i want payback for my patience and want to know what happened?

Any oldtimers out there who can shed some light?

There are a million reasons your bun might not be up to par, perhaps a flaw in the growing technique, but from what i can see in your journal, the bud looks pretty great. Maybe you should try something really indica dominant, it should give you more of that heady "stoned" feeling you seem to be after. Look into an AK47 or hashplant.
As everyone said, you dried it too much. If you have, put some fresh nugs (or fan leaves) in your jars for a day to redistribute some moisture. Otherwise,as has been said, orange peels work in a pinch. The idea with curing is to leach out all the chlorophyll that is contained in the plants, if there is no moisture to evaporate then there is no vehicle for the bore-a phyyl to leave the bud in.
