Default About 70% of the hairs are orange/amber...is she ready?
Sorry I dont have pics. But about 60-70% of the hairs are now amber/orangish and I was wondering if now would be a good time to pull her? I dont have a microscope and cant tell if the trichs are amber. Generally...without the use of the microscope, what is the best way to tell if she is ready to be pulled?

Also... can I cut some branches off that I think are done, to let some of the buds underneath get more light and develop more?

no scope is hard to tell, it becomes a guessing game.
it's best to invest in a microscope, you can find for really cheap online and have it shipped next day.
yeah, you can cut buds, try not to cut any main stalks. Your looking to add the lest amount of stress.
;You could cut a small bud and microwave at 10 sec increments, so not to burn, and try a tast test.(facter in that it will be even better after cure)

I disagree with the taste test notion. Uncured, undried bud will tell you nothing about whether or not its ready. It will taste like crap either way.

60-70% is a bit early, in my opinion. Some people will say youre in the "window" of time to harvest, but I like to let mine go a bit longer. The longer you wait, the more weight it will pack on, and the stronger the weed will be. I like my weed to hit me hard. I wait until about 90% are amber, which roughly calculates to half cloudy half amber trichomes. At 70% amber hairs, you will still have a large percentage of trichomes that are clear in color (ie, not at full potency). Unless you have a 30x microscope or better, you cant tell this. You can get the perfect pocket sized microscope at Radioshack for like 10 bucks.

'tast test', isn't really for tasting.

Thanks doods... I gave the plant a second look and I would say its more in the 80-90% range of amber colored hairs. I cut a few of the smaller branches, but left the main cola (which is most of the bud, its diesel ryder). I'll be sure to let you know how it goes... its actually got a blueberryish smell to it, is that normal or did I get a seed that was not what I ordered?
