i have a couple questions now that we've started harvesting -

first - is it absolutely necessary to dry buds for a full week before curing? because we've been hanging for like 3 - 4 days and it starts getting really crispy, so we just put them right into jars then.. the stems snap mostly..

second - what is meant by 'opening the jars up daily' - i've just been opening for a brief moment - blowing a bit to circulate air then closing them back up.. should they be left open for more time?

I usually hang mine until they first give that "it's almost dry enough to smoke, but not really" outside crisp to them...

Then they go into jars...

I open the jar until they start to feel crispy on the outside again...then I close it...

The idea is to dry the outside of the bud, then allow for the moisture from the middle to flow out, equalizing the moisture level within the plant matter...

and when you open the jar, you dry it a little more every time... slowly, but surely...

I am really high, so I hope I made some sense... lol...

It is a personal call. I find the main colas take a while longer than the rest to dry. The other thing is that it is hard to un-dry them. I would rather put them into jars a little sooner and spend more time opening the jars, dumping out the bud, letting it sit out for a few minutes, and rearranging the bud and placing back in the jars. It is more work but guarantees a better result.

sure.. i've seen what happens when they are hung too long.. i sure dont want to risk mold though..

ok.. hmm.. i've seen that before, but i don't retain everything i see.. lol..

so - i thought snapping stems were good - this says it can indicate overdrying..! that's an important point..

The only time mould becomes an issue is if you are lax in burping and rotating the buds in the jar. Laziness=mould.
