My plant has some branches that appear to be further along (and ready) than others. There ARE still white hairs on them tho. Do the white pistils indicate fresh bud growth? At 9-10 weeks, do thy still have alot of bud development left in 'em? I'm pretty sure it's a sativa, or a high percentage sativa.
Will it hurt anything if I chop some of the lower branches that appear ready? I'm trying to see for myself how far they need to go for the kind of effects I want.
And how do the lower branches compare to the upper? The lower branches have large "colas" (fist sized) at the ends, with some real respectable nuggets along the branch. Are the small, sort of tiny nugs worthwhile?

The top buds are ripe first. Ya can smple the buds by snippig off the little buds.

Sounds like the plant is ripe.

Do you have any pictures? and what does "bump" mean? I always see people type that

Dirtyboy, My main cola has less than 5% amber pistils, and about 10% amber trichs. this plant is maturing mostly at the bottom first! Go fugure! I'll get pics in the morning. I have pics about 2 weeks old and the buds have doubled in size. The main cola is about the size of a coke can, the rest of the "end buds" are about the size of a small childs fist, with a shitload of small popcorn nugs through out. My concern is that the pistils are, I'd say less than 20% amber, and the trichs are mostly clear, in some places they are amber but not a whole lot.
I aint looking for a really heavy couchlock high. We had some really good smoke this sack that had a nice cerebral high. It was kinda nice for a change. So I'd like it to be more cerebral, with a little body/couchlock. Since no one responded for a while, I went ahead and lopped off 2 of the lower limbs with mostly amber pistils. So we'll see whats up!

Sativas are to be harvested when they are clear to milky. You will get the high ya want.
The trichs maybe amber where you bruised them.
If ya want that type of high and nugs feel hard cut it down.

The buds can ripen at different rates and parts of the plant,when about 80-90% of the hairs are red inspect your trichomes and they should be pretty close to where you want
