My friend in Ecuador has been reading a lot about people using DXM and extracting it from Cough syrup. He defatted the cough syrup(tussen DM 10mg DXM, 100MG guf. 447mg DXM total and 4470mg of guf, total). Then, he raised the PH slowly until the chem's precipitated out of the solution(cloudy). He added Naptha, capped the bottle, and shook vigorously for about 15 min. He let the solution separate into 2 distinct layers and sucked the Naptha out with a pipette. He then added HCL acid a few drops at a time until the chem's precipitated out of the naptha(cloudy). He then added distilled water and shook the solution for 15 min. He poured the solution into a seperatory funnel and let the solution settle into 2 layers. He then drained out the bottom layer(distilled water) into a pyrex dish for evaporate precipitation to occur, and poured the Naptha back into the jar containing the basified, defatted cough syrup(for a second pull).

The first pull has evaporated leaving behind a pure white/clear crystalline substance(circular pattern). My friend has no plans what so ever to ingest this, really he was just curious if it was possible. This stuff is going in the trash, he does a lot of usless experimenting.

Does anyone know if the chemical changes depending on what is used to raise the PH or what is used to lower it? Is this still DXM hbr?

A sodium hydroxide/distilled water solution was used to precipitate the base DXM out of the cough syrup and hydrochloric acid was used to precipitate the salts out of the Naptha. Did he make DXO???
