So i got some shrooms the other day, and i was wondering if the spores in dried caps are still viable. If so, how would I go about turning them into mycelium and eventually mushrooms. I will be doing some research on the net, however I figured I'd throw the line out here first. Thanks for your time.

Technically they probably are viable.

However, by this time they are also covered in loads of other spores from the air. If you tried to grow them out, chances are extremely high that you would have loads of contaminations.

This is why spores and spore prints are collected and kept under sterile conditions.

Unless you live in a state where it's illegal it get spores, just order them. They're cheap and easy to get.

i am looking into that too, say I grew them out and didn't take them in case of contaminates, but then took a spore print from those new mushrooms and grew that out, would that reduce the cance of contaminates?

IMHO - No.

I just wouldn't chance it - contaminates can be toxic.

Usually a containminated cake won't grow mushrooms anyway.

yeah, and once you buy a print and grow your own shrooms from it, you'll have mushrooms to make unlimited amounts of spore prints from! I'm collecting some myself from a recently harvested batch of B+ Tried some the other night, and they amazing-really mellow trip.

Give it a shot and let us know how is works out for you. Can't be more contaminated then the spores that fall on shit in the cow pastures. Might work, but if it's contaminated other things will grow instead of mushrooms. If your mushrooms grow, they are good and yes you can eat them and make spore prints from them.

it should have parts 1 2 3 and 4 and it tells about magic mushrooms and what they look like and how to take spore prints ..good stuff i learned alot

if you do an agar culture and isolate a clean mycelium specamine, then you could potentially find a viable uncontaminated strain... but all that trouble when you can just order one for 10 bucks... check out the shroomery... shroomery.com... it's a great place.
