Default How did weed get the name "POT" theory

I was thinking of a name for Peyote (pronounce PEE-OH-TEE), a traditional herb used in rituals in my culture. I thought about using letters that form the sound of the word. It came back P-O-T. I know it is a different substance than weed, but it is a weird coincidence.

it supposedly came from the spanish or mexican word potiguaya.
