Amphetamines are basically a subsection of the phenethylamines. Amphetamine comes from the chemical name alpha-methylphenethylamine.
The main sectiona are Substituted phenethylamines, substituted amphetamines, and substituted methylenedioxyphenethylamines.

Substituted Phenethylamines are phenethylamines that contain the 2-phenethylamine structure along with modifications to phenyl group.

Substituted Amphetamines are substituted phenethylamines with a methyl group attached to the alpha carbon along with other substitutions.

Substituted methylenedioxyphenethylamine are substituted phenethylamines that were built on the base compound MDPEA.


MDMA is a 5-ht reuptake inhibiter. As you know it opens the gates and lets the Serotonin flood in.

Personally, I have only tried 2 tryptamines: lsd, shrooms.

Phenethylamines: Ecstasy.

Ecstasy become a total burnout for me and a big addiction. It holds some very positive attributes if you use it in the right context and setting. But ecstasy is characterized now as the party drug... its not the "something" that psychologists used for patients to explore their problems or achieve the true sense of ecstasy. That sincerity left the definition of mdma a long time ago... if used correctly and in moderation... ecstasy can achieve a great deal for the novice user of a soft psychedelic. To me it has achieved something... but now its routine, and that categorization is something I frown upon.

Shrooms on the other hand... I have experimented more than I would like too... but it still provides that mental disbauchery I have learned to respect! It gives, cradles, teaches and abolishes your ego. It sets it on a platter to be dispose to every inclination... it gives you euphoria but a sustained one based on the foundation of your conclusions... it doesn't push this sort of happiness out of a disposable tube of contradictions...

Personally, I can't say whether or not I love phenethylamines or tryptamines more... as I never really explored the heavy PEA's... I am looking forward soon. If I do get the chance to explore the old depths of peyote, then i might just be starstrucked

With Mescaline as a phenethylamine it was hard to choose, but with LSD, the DMTs, DiPTs and MiPTs etc I had to chose Tryptamines.

Definately tryptamines. LSD and DMT are the best I think. Mescaline is pretty cool too, but I think the there are way more tryptamines that I like. PEA's do come with a bit of a body load that I don't like.

Don't we all love serontonin.. it is the second most important neurotransmitters besides GABA. Serontonin is the regulation of our mood and attributes to the way we eat and sleep. Oh sunshines brings in the production of serontonin... a slight inverse for melatonin. But yes, their are far more tryptamine psychoactives that outweigh the benefits and body load of phenethylamines. Could it be that phenethylamines trigger more of an alertness and sensation of stimuli... which downplays the visuals and makes more for a comedown.
