Default Cake Sterilization methods..
so i am planning on starting a little personal mushroom grow, going to be following the pf-tek method BUT, the cakes are to big to fit into my pressure cooker. so im wondering could i steralize them in the oven? or would that dry out my substrate?

yes, the steam is meant to penetrate the substrate to cook/sterilize it and with all heat and no moisture its just going to evaporate. why not just buy new jars? $10 for a case of 12 at wallyworld.

lol if u cant get a big enuff p/c and your doing pf tec just get a big ass pot and lid and do a 90 min. high boil on it. i have done this before and works fine. be sure to put some foil or some on the bottom of the pot so the jars dont crack, and if u need to add more water to the boiling pot make sure u use hot water and never cold cuzz cold water mixed with boiling hot water breaks glass. good luck

I've tried using a pot and lid before but only with maybe <10% overall success.. I bought a pressure cooker though and haven't had trouble since, 100% so far.. nothing wrong with the PF TEK, I like it since I'm only doing it for personal use

You can steam sterilize with PF tek, but PF TEK ONLY - Limited without a pressure cooker.

Steam sterilise for 90minutes after the water is boiling. Should be alright

good luck i have a cambodian syringe just lying around waiting for the right time to start growing had some difficulties at home at the mo.

Forget the PF-Tek method. it is old and outdated. Far better and far more simpler methods exist. Try out some other tek.

See shroomery.org

For cleaning my jars I normally use a double boiler (like a big one for melting lots of chocolate) and stick a thermometer on the top of the pot (through a makeshift hole I made). Stick the jars in there, bring it up to 160°F and keep it there. Then count down an hour. Let them cool and your done. Been doing this for years with no pressure cooker or pressure caner.

Do check out shroomery.org.. good advice.. however go ahead with the PF Tek if you feel it's the best method for you.. 420ganja420 claims it's outdated but that doesn't make any sense whatsoever as the method still works as good as if not better than it did when it was first introduced and there have been improvements/adjustments on it.. no such thing as an 'outdated' method unless the technology of today's world can't lag slow enough to keep up with the older method which clearly isn't the case - it's just getting better and more efficient

I won't deny however that there are plenty of other better and higher producing Teks as they suggested but I've personally found PF Tek to be the most fool proof method I've tried as of yet (I'm an avid member of shroomery so I've got a good handle on it)

PF -Tek is a waste of materials. It is a very old method and you, as well as I, know that there are teks out there with way better yields, potency, etc. The original PF-Tek calls for more than what is needed and does not provide the best yields.

In short, the PF-Tek is a waste of time. It is old, inferior, and useless. A newbie will find himself wasting time trying to get the proper quantities of BRF, Verm, and H2O.

You suggest someone try something that is not even good than to try something that is cheap(er) and more effective?

Go with the 9er tek or any variation of that tek. Cheaper, better yielding, and far better potency with very few aborts.
