ok, well i dont have any way of keeping my half pint shroom jars warm, well they still colonize if they are kept at room temp? maybe just take alot longer? its been like 9 days and i havent seen any mycellium yet at all, and for like 3 of the days they sat on the central air vent with the heat turned on but i cant do that becuase i moved locations.


so will they still work?

Yes, heat is what starts the growth of the mycellium. The ideal temp range is 75- 78 degrees ambient air. In other words; the air around the jars should be 75-78. The temp in the jars tend to be about 3 degrees higher than ambient. Thus... 78-81 will be the temp in the jars (ideal internal temp).

I would suggest removing them away from air vents. The reason being that contams can exit from air vents. Even if (and you should) have a 1/2 inch layer of Verm on the top of the jars as a contam barrier, you want those jars as clean as possible.

Try this:
1) put alcohol wiped jars into a clean shoe box with air holes in the box.
2) place the shoe box above the oven cupboard with hood light on or place above the fridge (whic the top is always warm) in a cupboard.

The cupboards should be wiped out with bleach water and let to dry.

Mycellium growth should start within a week. It can take up to 2 weeks for fulll collonization one the jars are in the right temp range. Your temp range in the cupboard should be 75-78 degrees. Once you hit the 69-70 degree range collinization slows down drasticly.

thanks for your input, last time i did this i had a space heater in a tiny closet and it worked, not great but it worked, now i live in a fraakin cold basement, im puttn them beside the space heater with a towel over them in a shoebox i guess, thanks

you need to make yourself an incubator
get 2 rubbermaids
fill one with a few inches of water and put in a submersible water heater
put the other rubbermaid on top so it sits in the warm water
put your jars in and cover and wait for myc to colonize

man i got the tubular one that has sucktion cups, i turned it all the way up and put it in the rubbermaid and its not keeping the water warm at all? anybody else have trouble with these things?
