Any poppy seed in the spice section of your local supermarket will grow into a nice opium poppy. The seeds are Papaver somniferum L. and at Mccormick.com they even say that the seeds they use come from the same plant that produces opium. I took this on step farther and actualy purchased and planted some of their seeds. It only took 3 days for some of the seeds to germinate, and all of the plants that grew from the seeds produced opium. I even had 1 plant with 5 seed pods on it.

How many plants do you need for a serving???

So just go buy the Mccormic poppy seeds in the spice section!?!
Them being dried wont hurt anything??

Yeah, apparently so. aattochi grew some Mccormick poppy spice seeds. I'm going to go buy some tommorrow. This is awesome. Yeah and if u go to the mcCormick website it says the poppy spice seeds they use come from the opium plant.

Nope, your Cannabis seeds were dry, right? I seen cheap poppy seeds(store brand), but figured the McCormick would be fresher. 1 plant can produce a serving if growen right and spaced out enough. If not spaced out enough you will only end up with 1 or 2 pods per plant, unless you cook the opium with lime then basify the morphine alkaloid to end up with morphine base.

I wanted to do the same thing. the best way to harvest opium is to wait for the pods to ripen than slit them while theyre still on the plant, they will let out their resin, which is opim, and than you come back in a week or two and do it again, you can do that several times before harvesting the pods.

wait you bought poppy seeds for a grocery store and they actualy opened?
I thought they baked them or somthing and killed them
the poppy plant has a very interesting life.
