hmmmmm. i think im going to try them (growing)....
While they are wet, do they trip you out, just not as good as dry? info on wet vs. dry please.

They're the same wet or dry, the only difference is wet, they're ten times the weight and thus one tenth as potent because of all the water. If you want to store them, you have to dry them. Drying them gets rid of all the water, but keeps everything else.

hey doctor pot I just got some spores in today (Golden Teacher). I was gonna do the cakes but I was going to see if I could just use brown rice instead of getting the b.r.f. If so, do I just soak the brown rice the night before and then steam it with like I would with the flour?

I'm no expert, I'm just sharing what's worked for me. And brown rice has worked just fine for me. You should definitely cook the rice in the same container you plan to let the mycelia grow in, and be very careful to avoid doing things that could contaminate your batch. Other than that, it's a judgment call. One thing that seems to be the case is that any liquid on the bottom that will drip from one side to the other when you tip it, seem to increase the likelihood of bacterial contamination. But soaking the rice overnight before cooking it decreases that chance, so there you have it.
I haven't ever used brown rice flour, so I can't say which works better though. |

hey, i hope it works for you. When you put the lids on don't put them on real tight when you put them in the water. And when you take off the lids to put the spores in, do it in a room where there's as little dust as possible floating around. Ie, turn off heat or ac and make sure you're in a room that's not drafty and doesn't have anything moldy in it. ideally, you put the spores in when the jar is warm, but not hot. that way there is moisture that condenses on the spores and makes them grow more quickly.
oh yeah, and be careful with mushrooms, they can seriously fuck with you. if you're not sure how much to eat, err on the side of not enough. |
