I wanna use a 150w HPS as I have also been over at ICMag and seen their 150w club and the shit is crazy. Because of some lacking admins I havent been able to post on their site yet. So I'm askin the great minds of RIU to help me.
I would like to know how close I could keep a 150w HPS true cooltube(fully sealed) in relation to my plant tops. Because of course I dont want to burn the shit out of them but I wanna know the answer to this question. If anyone has any input it would be much appreciated. ![]() ![]() Ron Paul rEVOLution

Right, a 150 wont be very hot to begin with. A have 600 watters in 4 inch cool tubes and I can get the grow tips within an inch or two of the glass. I do rotate and move the plants every day though, or the leaves will bleach.
Keep in mind that the glass tube does decrease the amount of light recieved by the plants. A 150 watt bulb is kind of small to begin with. Unless you are having problems with room temps you might want to go without the cooltube. The small benefit you will gain by being able to get a few grow tips closer to the bulb would likely be negated by the reduced lumen output of the lamp. |

I was interested in using a 150w HPS for my first grow, but when I questioned some ebay sellers, they informed me that the light gets very hot. How does a 150w HPS compare with a 200w CFL? Thanks.

are you talkin 200w equivalent or 200 actual watts for the CFL? Seeing as how I've never grown yet or have a 150 I cant actually tell you anything about the diff in heat. I do however have a couple 42w CFLs(2700K 2700lumens) and they get pretty warm but with good ventilation no problem.

Icmag gave me mad inspiration, have you checked out the 150w club thread? shits amazing. And yeah ive been trying to get into that site for months, wtf?!!???
You do know that cool tubes take away 10 percent of lumens? When your working with low watt hps i think its a great idea to keep every precious lumen. I have threee 120mm cpu fans on my light and i can i can stick my finger a half inch away and keep it there all day, so i can get my plants a half inch away. I did a test with two computer fans in a cool tube set up and the glass is chill to the touch, you could easily have your buds chillin on the tube, ESpecially if you have a blower. Heres my set up

Ya I was reading bout your growbox and that shit is pretty tight! The 150w club is amazing and the guys over there are genius. But WTF is with their admins I cant post on that site yet and it has been weeks since registering. I still want to know if anyone thinks a 150w HPS could be used in a Rubbermaid setup. Thanks for the info upinchronic1 about the 10% lumen loss. I knew it killed lumens but didnt know how much. that helps a lot.
Can a 150w HPS be put into a 39"tall Rubbermaid clamshell????????????????? Peace Ron Paul rEVOLution

hey man.. i have the clamshell you are talking about.. running 2x200w enviros (Cfl), with additional lower cfl lighting (8x100w equivs).
as for the heat.. it gets very hot in there.. I have one 4" active intake.. and a 4" inline 128cfm exhaust with carbon scrubber on top of the box. I have also been wondering if I can put a cooltube across the top of the box.. i was thinking more like a 250w hps. with my 3x4" low cfm intake fans for additional cooling. What do you think? |

you will get more light coverage with the cooltube inches above your plants. Not directly on top of it.
oh and, 150w's DO get hot.
