I'm still in the planning stage of my first grow, but I was thinking about 1 gallon milk jugs with the top cut off. one plant per pot. they're a little under 12x12, and are square, so they should fit snugly together with not much space wasted between them. and they're free!

if you need bigger, maybe make make something. I love being creative. maybe some scrap wood. pressure treated will last longer, but not sure if it would hurt the plants. I have plenty of vinyl siding laying around, so maybe something lined with that. 2 strips tall might give me close to 12 inches deep, can be any size pot. wow, my ideas suck today. check at a local grow shop, or even walmart.

I got 4 gal square at a agriculture shop here. A little pricey, but not too bad $4 with lid.

Try to avoid hydro shops for simple stuff. they mark it up big time.

Know anyone with cats? Those litter containers are about that size too.
Wander around a few stores and see what comes in the container you want.

Exactly from a grow store, but you could try your local Home Depot and go to the outdoor garden section and ask someone for the old transplant pots.If they have some they will be free or they will charge you like a dollar per pot. KEEP SMOKE ALIVE!!

I havent tried to find square pots, but I get used 5 gal. round pots fo 50 cents apiece at a local nursery. The square ones will fit tighter together, but for half a buck I can live with the round ones. I also get the smaller sizes for a dime to a quarter each.

Dang. For 1/2 a buck me too!

If one is dead set on square (I like em) Take a 2x4 and a few screws/nails ad a heat gun. make up a frame. Use the heat gun to soften the round bucket and form it to being square (top section). This will adjust the capacity some, but still in the range.

Damn, thats a good idea. I have a paint stripping gun that I am going try that with. Just have to be careful not to get it too hot and totally melt the pot. Rep for you.

Thanks.

I would just make a frame and stuff it inside. Maybe a few bricks or such for constant down pressure as you heat it up. Also maybe put the whole thing on a turn table to help soften it up evenly. Naturally, you won't be able to make it square all the way down.
Oh damn. Its not a great idea. The 5g buckets aren't tapered , so the flat sides would probably be inside of the radius of the bottom, unless you stretch it out, but that will make thinner walls.
