Default Musty Basement-Is this OK?

Hey everyone! I am moving into a home that has a full unfinished basement, complete with sewer drain and water hookups WooHoo!! Way more room than I need but that is a good thing. However, the basement has flooded in the past and it has that musty smell. The flooding problems have since been fixed. No signs of mold from what I can tell, but that smell has me concerned. The landlord is coating the walls with a special waterproof plaster stuff and of course I will cover the walls in mylar or plastic sheets. Does anyone think I will have a problem with bud mold in a situation like this? Do I need to take any special precautions for my garden. I will put a dehumidifier down there also. What do you guys think?

Use bleach and make sure that the offgassing from whatever water sealant he applies to your basement doesnt make your bud really unhealthy. wait till the smell of the sealant is gone or diminished reasonable or cover it with something more than mylar I would look into an ozone generator for killing molds. This also hekps with the smell. Dehumidify when you flower but if you dehumidify small plants or veging plants they get sad.

Consider hitting the walls with a water resistant primer compound specifically for wet basements. It can cut down alot on the humidity which can be a problem.

i would go with the plastic reflective material and make a sealed box out of it that seperates itself from the environment with velcro- then you could do all the other precautions, and hook up venting from it- and be set!
