What methods do ya'll use to design a venting in a house you rent? I am hesitant to putting holes in the walls or the door. I currently use CFLs, so I don't vent, but I'm moving to 400HPS in a couple months and have no idea how to set up the venting/exhaust system.

I am in a 700sq ft apartment and my setup is in my bedroom, I vent to the main area by extending the exhaust tube out of the bedroom. When the lights go off I move the exhaust hose back to my bedroom.

hmmm, yeh, perhaps I should just do that, make the hole, and then replace the dry wall when I move out. Interesting....I'm excited to get my real grow room started! CFLS are fun, but I want MORE AND MORE AND MORE! I'm sure I will want a 600 about 3 grows after starting with the 400

The ideal way would be to buy a grow tent or build a cab and exhaust out of that. You can also partition off a section and go with that.

If you use a carbon filter you could use the exhaust to heat your bedroom... if you live in a cooler climate.

But if you have a tent or a closet, just vent it outside to anywhere you can. Filtered it can go out the window, into existing ducting, into a basement or attic... etc.

hell yeah. theres nothing that anyone can say until you leave. and when you leave the rental, all you have to do is make it the same as when you moved in. if its just holes, then its easy to fix. i have holes galore in my bedrooms and storage closets alone with tapcons and steel plates on the concrete ceilings (apartment). they cant say shit as long as they dont know im growing dope. if they ever come in for an inspection they can ask why you have a hole, and you can reply with "its non of your fucking business, you nazi asshole. get the fuck out of my home". or something similar to get them off your case.

Just vent into the room you are using but have a carbon filter at the end to eliminate all the smell

I think in an apt the best route would be to vent through a central heating duct in the ceiling after running the air through a scrubber.
