Can a 6k btu air conditioner handle an 8x10 vented room with not much insulation with an air cooled 1kw light during the summer? max temp around 100 in the hottest portions of the summer. Hoping to keep the room around 85 at the most.

Btu has nothing to do with wattage of the light. It's square ft. I think 7500 covers 250sqft
well, Being I have 20 years a/c experience, I can tell you it is NORMALLY done by sq ft. 400 sq ft per ton to be exact, But we are talking about cooling a HID light and the math has been worked out a long time ago. you need a minimum of 4,000 btu's to keep a 1000 watt bulb cool.

1 ton = 12,000 btu

8x10 room =80sq ft

6,000btu is half a ton, will do 200 sq ft, NORMALLY, should be plenty to cover 80 sq ft and a 1000watt bulb

For 0 professional HVAC experience I would say I gave decent advice. Thanks for the extra info though I love it!

Chuck has you coverd on this ,but when you say vented , watch out for exhausting out and bringing in to much air into the grow room . this will play heavy on your 6000 btu A/C, being that you have over 100 deg temps , best case senario on 100 deg days is 76-80 deg f thats with no room exhausting, or intake of any kind (sealed room).you will never do better then a 20 deg differental on temps in your grow room design.
