| | Y-sockets | | Hey, i was wondering what those y-sockets for CFL's are called? Also does it matter with the wattage and what not? say i just took a lamp socket, stuck in a Y connector, and put in two 27w cfls, would this be unsafe? do Y connectors have certain wattages? Thanks

| | Whenever you buy electrical products to assemble you always need to read for their "maximum wattage." People say they do not see it sometimes, but it is mandatory for the manufacturer to label it somewhere either on the packaging or the product itself.
If you exceed this maximum wattage you can get electricuted or start a fire. The fire wouldn't be immediate either. It would suck to go to work, and come home to your house burnt down and cops asking about your setup. Follow the recommended rating and you'll be safe. Good Luck

this is the lamp i have, do you think i could chop it for a base socket? its a 13w GU24 buld, this i run the risk of overload or fire if i put in a y socket and put in 2x27w CFL's?

| | You can do something a lil easier, My friend just gets the attatchment for the Y socket that alows you to plug the Y socket straight into a normal wall socket...he then hooks all of them up to a power strip and just plugs the y socket directly into those and velcros the strip to the top of his grow space... That way you dont have to worry bout wattage problems because even the most basic powerstrips have a 250W limit so you would be perfectly fine with what your using. |
