I have a Natures air, I like the NA-2 but the the Alpine has a HEPA washable filter, (I modified my NA-2 to have a carbon pre filter, just to keep the dust out of the machine. I also have true HEPA air cleaners that I use to control dust and such and the ozone generator to remove odors.)

That Alpine unit you linked to uses UVc lamps to create ozone, the one I have uses corona discharge ceramic plates. They're both good units, as they both have separate Neg Ion functions that can be used independently without creating ozone via the UVc or Corona discharge ceramic plates being off. Ebay's the place to buy these for sure, people buy them thinking they are 'air cleaners' per se, Only to discover that if used improperly or in excess, can cause mucous membrane damage. These people buy these units for $500, then offload them while their still 'as new' on Ebay for cheap. I paid $100 for mine and it was maybe used once.

Whatever 03 machine you buy, just spend a little time and read how to use them properly with timers and such or via remote control like I use. It's always better to use them while your not in the room, and use them only for small periods of time, ie; as little as possible to get the job done. Both the NA-2 and that Alpine exceed the EPA's .05mg/hr safe recommendation. I believe the unit I have produces well above 500mg/hr with both plates installed, which is a bit higher than the EPA safe limit recommendation, the Alpine also produces copious amounts of 03, used properly they are the best product on the market for removing organic odors and some chemical ones as well.

PS, If you buy one and decide to buy an appliance type of remote controller for it, make sure the remotes controller that plugs into the power plug is a three plug grounded recepticle. You'll blow out the Alpines fuse if plugged into a 2 prong outlet.

Kevin,

That was a good move at a decent price. I almost bought the same unit, but decided I wanted one with ceramic plates, not that the NA-2's corona discharge method is better, in fact, the one you bought is actually better than mine.
I already had UVc lamps in my central A/C ductwork. Had I not had that, I would have bought the same unit as you bought.

If you decide on buying a remote to control it, head over to Smarthome.com They have 3 pin grounded appliance module & remotes from around $20 to the fancy shmancy ones for more, some of them are for use with any PC connected to the net to remotely control the ozone machine from anywhere, Smarthome.com is a great site and they have great support, if you need question's answered, they are there to help. Heck f you had an unlimited budget, they probably have home automation gadgetry that could grow the plants without a human involved, but what fun would that be

Kevin,

My best friend is a cigar smoker, his wife doesn't let him smoke his stoggies at home, she when he comes here, he smokes the cigars here at my place, it's no big deal as the Ozone generator easily deals with that stink. If I didn't have a ozone generator, I'd ask him to smoke those cigars on my porch.

Another lifelong friend owns a used car lot, after giving him a demonstration of what the Ozone generators is capable of, how this happened was he accidently stepped in a big steamy pile of dog poop.

Now this was kind of gross, but I I told him to take the shoe off outside and put it in a box. I then ran an extension cord to the box outside my front door. *That poo shoe wasn't coming into my house
I then put the ozone machine in the box and set it to run at full blast for five or ten minutes (Box was 3' Square, plenty of room for the poo shoe and the ozone unit) Closed the box and gave it a 'shock treatment'. Opened the box and told him to take a whiff with his nose right up to the box. -No smell- The shoe's sole still was caked in poo, but the odors was gone. He then went outside and scraped the poo off the shoe, then we gave it another shock treatment and the poo shoe was good as new

That day he bought an ozone generator at Ebay for his car lot to remove any foul odors in the cars before they are resold. He puts then in the car, runs the (ozone) 03 for 15-30 at full blast in the car with the windows closed, and the smells are ka-poot.

PS, for clothing that is saturated with cigarette smells, put your clothes in an unused closet, put the machine on full blast (aka 03 shock treatment) and close the closet door. In no time your clothes will not smell of cig smoke.

i'm sitting here waiting for it, it does sound plenty good. my pop has a house that has been empty for a year or so because of the funk. the last tennants that were there hid meat in the vents when they moved out, smelled like dead bodies in there. this will be the ultimate test.

We use these in our office to control cigarette smoke. Works well. I took one home over the w/e and put it in my growroom (10x12x. Kind of worked, don't know if I'd trust it without my carbon filters. Might work well enough for a small cabinet though.
