The question is do standard hps lights you buy at lowes put out enough of the right spectrum of light to grow under or do I need to order a grow light from on line? A little leary of ordering something like this on line, coming in the mail and every thing. Any help would be great!peace man

They're fine. Some of the grow-specific ones tweak things just a bit, but standard HPS is just fine.

thanks guys apreceiate the help. I'm using cfls now but all I can find around here is 23wat 1s but every body on here using them are using 43wat 1s anyway I'm not getting the growth I would like so thinking of upgrading!

yeah man when you switch to hps the plants will take off, especially when they bud

The bulbs themselves will do just fine. There is next to no difference in them than from what you’d get from some grow store unless you were comparing a few specialty types that are fine tuned or tweaked a little like the 430 watt compared to the 400 watt. The thing is that you will still need a good reflector to get the most out of your light.

Do you have a plan for that? Can you make one or know someone who can and know it will be at least fairly efficient?

I understand how you feel about buying online and having something delivered but I am sure that many people here can tell you of places they bought from and never had a problem so it is not like hanging a sign outside of your house that says I grow pot in large red letters or anything.

If you are trying to do it cheap but still get more wattage and a MH and or HPS a few friends of mine have bought from a place called Inside Sun and bought their special deals that were really low priced. They are not top of the line lights and ballasts’ but they have worked well for them for several years or so now and were cheap and I’ve seen the boxes they were shipped in and there wasn’t anything that said grow light or anything to give any idea of what was in the boxes printed on the side. Only the store name was on the label and that doesn’t really tell anyone anything.

If you haven’t done something yet you might want to take a minute and google them and check out their specials and you may end up figuring it is the way to go.
