can you grow in a flood system using nothing but 1/4in rockwool cubes? i need hydroton fast and cant afford or find it around where i live. any suggestions?

No. Try lava rock instead. It's way cheap.
1 Cu. Ft. Red Lava Rock

If you don't have $5 you can use gravel.

rockwool is cheap like 3 dollars at the hydro store
