I'm in the finishing stages of automating my water and nutrient refills now, here. I think that part of automating a grow is easier and cheaper then you make it. I guess if you want to prove a bot can do it thats one thing, but there is a lot to be said for KISS
I agree automation would be alot easier but I do want to prove its not as hard as it seems to build a bot. Keep in mind its not just a set and forget bot to do it automatically its manually driven. The thing is I enjoy building things and I just think it would be cool to own one.
Theres many more uses besides growing but I love growing and I think its messed up that the world thinks that alcohol(among other things) is safer than weed. its wrongly illegal so i wanted to come up with a way to plant, tend, harvest, and transport as normal without physically being there and with as little "evidence" of a grow. The less there is to see the less i am worried about it being noticed.

Building a robot to grow weed is incredibly hard, that's why you can't go to walmart and pick one up to tend your garden. The only place i would trust leaving something so valuable to do its thing is the complete middle of no where, and if i grew there i wouldn't need a robot to do it. Set stuff up right and all you gotta do is plant, then harvest. You want a bot to trim for you? Transport for you? To where, the couch? Will it load a bowl for me too? Any further i bet your bot gets held up for his haul, then stolen to be a slave bot for some other grower, lol.. not to mention anything on wifi can be traced back to you a lot easier then just having the BFE gorilla grow needed for this thing to operate without being messed with, that you only visited when it was time to chop. You're never going to be completely hands off, less you open up a bank account in your bots name and teach it to sell, ha! I'd love to see some ATF fucker find a bot growing weed, then follow it right to the oh so smart stoner owner as it 'transports' herb to your front door, lol

haha first thing I was gonna say was "arduino" when I read the first part. I can see you controlling a hydro set up, lights, ac, but I don't think it's possible to go beyond basic motor movements safely.

    Best of luck, though!

There are several arduino servo shields, and developing a feedback loop wouldn't be all that hard. Just time consuming. Several home brew cnc's have been developed from the arduino platform. A cnc needs way more precision than a robotic arm.

I'm just worried that precise motor movements are going to be tough/risky even going CNC. I'm a bit out of it right now but if you need any help feel free to inbox me!

It doesn't get any more precise than CNC... accuracy to thousands of an inch? I think that should be just fine for handling plants.

i agree and disagree that creating what he is doing is difficult, but the only thing that makes it difficult is the knowledge needed to create the device..

unfortunately its obvious you did not take the time to read thru the pages, and with that being said you should not have posted a comment, almost everything u said, such as saying the ATF following the plant back to its owner,. . its obvious he said he had no intentions of having it brought to him it would be stored a short distance from the grow and it if was caught he would not mind losing a couple $100.
another thing i would address is this topic is not for opinions on if there is an easier way of growing weed, i would venture to say this almost has nothing to do with weed when it gets down to what the ORIGINAL POSTER is actually looking for, which is ideas, creativity, and knowledge from other members.

to others who doubt this are possible, you are either small minded or ignorant to say that we do not have the technology to do this, all the evidence is in front of you. We are so advanced the only downfall we have as humans are that horrible habit of denying something possible if by your own ignorant knowledge you are not able to grasp the physics and engineering that is required in machines.

    to Airhead:

I understand why you get frustrated with people not reading thru the pages and posting ignorant comments trying to tell you to grow hydro or asking you questions that have already answered, or just saying its not possible, but lets face it . You were on the right track at the beginning just to simple ignore the haters and dont even reply to them, because if they dont have the time to read everything before the post their opinion, then they have taken that same concept into learning.

now for ideas i have no knowledge that your looking for, although concerns i see are space, like with every gadget and idea seems to be more space, but i know you have a better idea of your parts size and i know you havent spent 6 months to let it go to waste..

    Best of luck
