3x2x8 closet.. Have a few questions..

  • I have a 3x2x8 closet. The closet is right behind my bathroom so I am going to tie my exhaust fan into my toilet vent and I may filter it in the attic with a carbon filter, I know I am a genius, haha.... I am also going to line it with reflective material. My questions are how many plants can I grow in this size closet, will I need an intake fan as well as the exhaust fan, and do you guys think I will need a carbon filter so the neighbors won't smell it.. My closest neighbors are probably 100 feet away.. The room is so small I know I won't be able to grow many plants at once so I didn't know if the smell would be bad enough for a filter.. All your time and help is appreciated...

The way I understand it with carbon filters is, that you want to replace the air in your closet about 4 times a minute to keep the smell of your crop in check. Your grow space is 48 cubic feet. You could use a 200 cfm fan and a 200cfm rated carbon filter to scrub the air before you blow it into your attic. I built my own cool tube and run a 400w in a space thats less than 2 feet x 1.5 feet x 5 feet. with with a 200 cfm fan and filter and I cant smell my cabinet from the room its in. I can hear it a little but its not too bad.

If you bought a larger fan, you could run a 600 in there no problem. just buy a fan speed controller so you can slow the fan to get the temps dialed in.

How many 5 gallon pots can you fit in the closet? Id put 2 plants in your closet and veg the plants until they are about 1/3 your maximum height train them to make them nice and bushy. I have 4 in my cabinet and It is too crowded. But i grow my plants screen of green.

Check out the grow in my sig.

Check out ona gel if you're worried about a filter reducing your fan's CFM too much. It works wonders I hear. Have yet to get it but I can't run a filter without making an overpressure situation because I have a 240 cfm intake and a 240 cfm exhaust. Good thing I'm not stinkin too bad yet. They keep my temps in check so I can't baffle them with anything like a filter. I don't have $100 for a filter either. You need a ton of cool air to cool your light with an open loop system like you're talking about. Otherwise it can get up to 90+ in there with a 600w. Hope that helps. Just saw your thread because my closet is similar in size.

Oh and I'm runnin 3 afwrecks trained out to maximize my 4x2. Any more would be too thick. They're in 4# or 5# nursery pots that are 12in across.

I subbed this. My initial space will be close in size. 19" x 39" x 104" height. I've been running it through my head where to start. I need all the info. I can get.... Sounds like I better read about training a bit more too. Good Luck T32
