    Default Making My Own Pot

As title says im going to make my own pot to maximise the space in my small grow space (1.6x1.5ft). The pot will hold 68 liters or divided into 2 pots at 34liters, which is more than if i get a normal pot. Im going to make it out of wood and line it with bin bags or thick plastic. My question is on the bottom of the pot for run off what way will i make it.? like Pot A or Pot B.?

Pot A is 4 pieces all slanting towards the center for 1 run off point

Pot B is the tradintional pot stlye with loads of holes

Go with pot B, that way the water will have a better chance of soaking all the soil, pot A could leave dry areas of soil at the corners.

thos are going to be some big pots!

I don't think so. It shaves off a couple inches by having the base of the plant a few inches lower with the same amount of soil, but the plant itself will grow the same either way. All it will do is bring the top of the pot a few inches lower which will give you a few inches more vertical space. I'm not 100% sure but thats what I think. Oh and also it means you have a larger surface area for the same volume of medium compared to a tall thin pot of the same size, which means more air can get down into the roots, so youll have a healthier root system.

I like the idea of building to fit, but there are a couple of inherit problems.

1 Drip tray (whatcha gonna use)
2 (Most important) Don't use wood, it will get wet and it will mold.

Maybe go to WalMart or any housewares store and look for some plastic containers that will fit your space (lid in most cases will work for drip pan in a pinch). But all growing containers are based on the same basic proportions height = 1 to 1.5 x width, because its proven to be better.

He might be right there, the plant will shoot its roots down alot more than outwards(all plants do this to try and get a tap on moisture lower in the ground incase the topsoil dries out). So even though there will be alot of soil surrounding the plant it roots will go down first and may never really explore all the soil on the sides. Just don't make your pots too shallow is all

1 just pin plastic liner around in some way under the pot
2 im going to cover the wood with plastic to stop it warpping and such, iv tryed to get a plastic container but the biggest i could find was just a bit on the small side
